Charming coffee house

I had a lovely afternoon here with my elderly parents. Warm service, the hostess was very thoughtful and arranged a table in the garden under a large parasol. The outside garden is so pretty with mixed plants and flowers. We had a pot of tea for four, cakes and a selection from lunch menu. Assam... read more

This little place never disappoints. I've enjoyed lunch, brunch & brekkie here. Yet to try the afternoon tea, but it always looks amazing when others have had it. The shop at the front has some lovely things for sale - quite good if u need to combine gift shopping with a pit-stop. On a sunny day it is an absolute... More

My family and I visited on 15th August and we had a fantastic afternoon tea. One of my relatives has a dairy-free diet. When I booked I make the request for a dairy-free option. (If you are dairy-free you would need to book in advance). The dairy-free option was the best my aunt has ever had - she is normally... More

Disappointing to previous visits. Over priced for what we had. Such a shame as it used to be very good.

Today I visited Cabbages And Kings for the second time, and once again I wasn't best impressed! I called prior to our visit to ask if there was any availability, the lady on the phone simply said 'no.' And didn't offer an alternative or a time slot where there were available tables. I was then told to come along and... More

Thank you for your review. I do love it when a customers exaggerate. We actually have 40 seats inside and an extra 15 outside. We have very strict planning consent and just one chair over the 15 and we get sued by the council for being in breach of our planning. We are popular and we are small and we... More

Love this place and have been many times. The food and cakes are amazing and I truly love everything.....but I was really disappointed to see all the cakes on the display counter all uncovered and covered with flies and wasps who were enjoying the scrumptious cakes. It is easy to get some nice glass display covers which would stop the... More

Thank you for your review. "All the cakes on display uncovered" well that's not actually true is it. We have at least 7 domes on cakes year round. And at the time you visited I think all but 3 items were covered "Easy to get some nice glass covers" well I i expect it is but will they fit our... More

I have been to this place a few times now as I work nearby, it is in a lovely village but there is not a great choice on the lunch menu ....I had 4 prawns and salad which cost £12 ! obviously better to go for breakfast as lots on offer! The other thing I would like to mention is... More

We visited for my birthday lunch and sat in the beautiful garden...the lunch was delicious and the homemade cakes amazing ...we didn't realise you have to book 24 hours in advance for afternoon tea so will definitely be booking a return visit!! The gift shop has some lovely items well worth a browse :-))))

Such a charming little place in the village of Halstead. Been meaning to go for some time now and finally did. The service was so friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. We went for lunch but because it was a weekend they do breakfast until 2, so we had the scrambled eggs and spicy mushrooms. So so tasty.... More
