Abbey Cottage is a family owned and run tearoom celebrating 30 years in business in 2013. We are delighted to receive a 'Top Tea Place' award from the Tea Council in April 2013. We offer coffees, light lunches and afternoon teas, sourcing ingredients locally, and even growing some ourselves. We have a good understanding of dietary issues and can offer gluten and lactose free menu options. Situated next to Sweetheart Abbey, in the shadow of Criffel and on the road to the coast.

This is the second visit and on the day they reopened this year and it was perfect from service to meals. The apple crumble is a must and will never be forgotten

We always try to stop at Abbey Cottage when we are in the area. The outside seating area means that Luca the dog is welcome and the food is always tasty with a wide choice. Sitting outside also means you get a lovely view of Sweetheart Abbey. When the weather wasn't so kind we also got some food to takeaway.... More

The food was very good and they use local produce. I had a ploughmans salad and my wife had roast beef salad. They had apple crumble which was out of this world and my wife had strawberry sundae.Looking forword to our next visit but watch out for winter opening

Many thanks for your review - so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your lunch at Abbey Cottage, The apples in the crumble are from our own home garden - and there were plenty of them this year!! When the days are dark, wet and windy there are fewer people around, so we do have to rethink our hours. We're... More

My friend and I stopped off for lunch here in the middle of a house-hunting trip and we were delighted we did. The food was delicious, the staff couldn't have been more helpful (or tolerant of two very opinionated Jack Russells who immediately decided they owned the place and set about defending it) and the location, right by Sweetheart Abbey,... We came in for some food, and the menu said that they were a little bit slow in service, so we patiently waited for someone to come, I asked one of the waitress if I had to order or they came to the table and I was told 'you are on the waiting list, we'll come to you' . A... More

I'm really sorry that the level of service you experienced on Sunday was not up to our usual standard. As you'll see from previous reviews, our service is something that is commented upon very favourably, and is something that we take very seriously. Clearly something went wrong on Sunday and we've spoken to the team who were working that day.... More

We came across this delightful quaint little tea room while touring the area in our motorhome. ( there is an excellent car park just behind it !) As it was sunny we sat in the pretty little courtyard garden with our dogs. We had excellent coffee and scones and the service was also excellent. It has lovely views across to... More

Today I was one of a group of twelve people who dropped in for lunch at Abbey Cottage,we had not booked. The service was first class and the food was all freshly prepared and very much enjoyed by all.

Thank you so much for your review. We do prefer if larger groups can book in with us in advance as that gives us time to set up tables and have the kitchen team ready. Of course, that's not always possible, and I'm delighted that your group were pleased with the service they received and their freshly prepared food. More

We went here 3 times in one day - break, lunch and afternoon tea. That should say it all. They have a great selection of loose teas and some very nice homemade cakes. The breakfast was also very good, and all local ingredients.

Having visited the tearoom on a number of previous occasions over the past few years we were disappointed last week with our meal. Both my husband and I had vegetable soup and wholemeal bread. It wasn't advertised as a creamy soup so when a 'spring' type thin soup arrived we accepted it. However it was just vegetables in water and... More
