Abbey Cottage is a family owned and run tearoom celebrating 30 years in business in 2013. We are delighted to receive a 'Top Tea Place' award from the Tea Council in April 2013. We offer coffees, light lunches and afternoon teas, sourcing ingredients locally, and even growing some ourselves. We have a good understanding of dietary issues and can offer gluten and lactose free menu options. Situated next to Sweetheart Abbey, in the shadow of Criffel and on the road to the coast.

This very smart cafe does what they call "light lunches", which means that they don't do huge cooked meals. They do however serve a good selection of sandwiches, wraps, paninis etc as well as salads, soups, baked potatoes etc. The food is of good quality and reasonably priced.

Visited this wonderful tearoom with my family last week. There were 5 adults and two wee ones in the group but we were able to get seated together in the tearoom and the staff quickly got us a highchair for my young nephew to sit in. If you prefer to eat al fresco there was a lovely area to sit... More

We visited the Abbey Cottage coffee shop in early July on a lovely sunny day. It sits next to Sweetheart Abbey to which we had just enjoyed a visit. We both had a sandwich with a side salad and coffee. The food was plain and very pleasant. The staff were very nice and friendly. It was lovely to sit outside... More

Most of the time you don't mind paying a little bit extra if the quality of the refreshments, the creativity of the menu, or the outlook/position is exceptional. This tea room had a very interesting menu of drinks and light refreshments which proved to be of excellent quality. Service was pleasant although a little slow but gave us time to... More

Very friendly staff, reasonable prices, reasonable food although rather paltry portions. Lovely setting and I guess you pay a price for that within the food/portions.

My daughter and I had lunch here about three weeks ago. I had Haggis with salad, oatcakes and chutney. It was delicious, I bought some of the chutney in the shop and it has all gone because I have served it with cheese, meats, etc. The haggis was the best I have ever had. My daughter had spaghetti hoops and... More

Gosh, what a review! Thank you so much! Delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit so much! We source as much as we can locally - the haggis that you had is from Houston's butchers in Dumfries, and the chutney is from Galloway Lodge in Gatehouse of Fleet. Sorry about not having jam to sell by the jar -... More

This is my favourite cafe by far. They have plenty of food for the allergy sufferer and will always listen to the customer when they tell you their allergies. The staff are always friendly and smiling. The food is lovely especially their puddings!!

Beautiful wee town with a lovely tea room & shop, right next to sweetheart abbey. If you're a tea conisouire you'll love this place, there are so many to choose from. Liked how you got your own wee tea pot, with an extra pot of hot water. It was pouring with rain when we visited, however it was still stunning.... More
