First visit here, table booked for 8pm. Arrived at 8pm to be told table wasn't ready. We were served drinks and asked to take a seat in the bar area. We had a quick peek in the restaurant area which was small! After asking if they were running late we were told no, hmmmm that was a fib! A waiter... More

Visited twice recently on our stay in the area. First visit on a Wed night, very welcoming and made to feel at ease.Restaurant fairly quiet but food so good we returned on the Friday night. We had lunch here on a Wednesday, there was a lot of choice on the menu and the food was very good. Even my Mum who is a fussy eater enjoyed the food she had battered cod, chips and peas.

Food good but slow. Took ages to come but very good once arrived. Attention to detail and organisation not as good here. Previously good , organised and service very good. Possibly changes of staff? Not busy at a time we arrived so unsure why such long waits, for food, to clear, for orders? Staff not around when attention needed. Friendly... More

Stopped for lunch at this Pub while taking our visitors around the Forest of Dean. We were all impressed with the extensive menu, good beer and welcoming friendly staff. Each of the four of us ordered a different meal which was presented within 10-15 minutes with the waiter service being quite professional........better than some hotels I have been in !... More

This used to be one of my favourite pubs for good food, beer and service a few years ago. However it is now on my very short list of "Pubs not to go to anymore". I have been in twice recently and was left disappointed by the quality of the food and the service provided by the Landlady, Sharon. As... More

I am so sorry that you felt that I gave you the cold shoulder, I am horrified by your review & can only apologise. I am always happy to give samples - as you say it is common practise and something that we do without question - we were recently awarded CamRa pub of the year for the Forest of... More

This lovely old pub is a good find in an areas where there don't seem to be that many good pubs which also do good food (with the exception of the Ship Inn in Newnham which I reviewed on Saturday!). The Red Hart Inn has a really extensive menu, with lots of specials. It's a very welcoming and friendly pub... More

The meat was mostly uncooked and fatty, the veg very little of it and quite cold, the gravy was like dish water, the potatoes arrived after we had eaten the rest. I say eaten what we could that is the meat went in a bag for the dog. The sweet well none of which was home made, not much of... More

If you are visiting here expecting fine dining and high end restaurant food, then book somewhere else. However, this isn't a criticism- is a pub and that is what you should expect. The food is good hearty pub food- large portions of basic food but very well done. I had a homemade burger- smashing. Husband had a steak, very tender.... More
