In our party of four we had steak and bri pie, wild boar and cider, steak and stilton and steak and chicken double pie, served with chips and peas. Fabulous meal. Big mouth watering meals - best pies ever. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly staff. Lemon meringue and chocolate fudge cake to die for. The surrounding old pub charm,... More

We went to this cosy pub this evening for a meal. It was a pleasure to step inside the front door into the bar, where there was a log fire burning and a warm, cosy atmosphere. There are a few tables here and more rooms through a doorway beyond, in a network of areas. There is an impressive choice of... More

The quintessentially English pub, friendly, warm and welcoming. We stayed two nights in a lovely room which was spacious and really well appointed. We were made so welcome and treated like friends even though it was our first visit. The food was stunning, it was prepared and presented perfectly and was reasonably priced. We hope to return in the near... More

Last week was our third and last try. Last year we went to sample their 'famed' pies and waited 1 hour 15 minutes for it to be served. We later tried items off their a la Carte menu and they were over-priced and under-provided. Last week as we had restricted time I had a cheese ploughman's at £9.25p. For that... More

We arrived on a busy lunchtime just before Christmas with no table booked. We were made so welcome and served quickly even though people were arriving for their pre booked Christmas party meals and we were only there for a bar meal. They even took the time to make a fuss of our dog and gave her doggie biscuits. The... More

We had visited this pub a few years ago and were keen to revisit. It did not disappoint. We visited over new year and they were busy but still found us a table. Being a vegetarian I went for the butternut squash/sweet potato pie which isn't new to me, being a fan of the pie minister pies in Bristol. However this pie had absolutely no taste to it what so ever and the pastry was the blandest I've ever tasted. My dad had similar remarks about his steak and blue cheese pie which... More
