We've had Sunday lunch here on several occasions, each time without booking and always excellent. Sometimes we've made it into the restaurant and sometimes we've eaten in the bar. In these days of no smoking it doesn't really matter where you eat in a pub. Lunch today was an excellent black pudding and bacon stack for my companion with a... More

I am new to the tripadvisor experience and my first post is for the lovely old ship at aldborough. I have not been in for about a year or so and when we came before we loved the place but food and service kind of let it down a little. We decided to try again last week as we had... More

I ate in the Ship Inn last week with some friends. I have eaten here many times over the years and have reviewed it before but it's been a while so deserves an update. Last time we ate here, there were very few reasonably-priced main courses and when you want a bit more of a bar meal rather than a... More

Ordered three main meals and two desserts, all very good, except for the 'Chunky Chips' which were really quite hard on the inside and a very dark soggy brown on the outside, looked and tasted as if they had been cooked very quickly in old cooking oil, complained to waitress, who actually said " your joking aren't you"? When we... More

Regarding the chips our waitress did tell you that the fryer oil had been changed 2 days earlier and was not old and that the browning of the chips was caused by high starch content ( a major problem over the last year with the very wet weather conditions,) unlike McCains we do not have the facilities to check every... Having just returned from having lunch at The Ship Inn, I must say that all of our party of six were most disappointed. It looked promising from the offset, having done a reccy before having called for a drink and encouraging reports from aquaintances. The gentleman who served our drinks, which we presume was the landlord, brought our drinks to... More

what a wonderful welcome and a blazing fire on a cold winter's day! The meal was superb, the best roast beef and yorkshire pudding you'll ever have. The service was first class and the cheese board beat us! An absolutely perfect venue for a family lunch and not expensive.

We went to The Ship today for a lunch following my Uncle's funeral and high tea following his thanksgiving service. Lunch, Friday, Yorkshire - Yep had to be Fish and Chips. Four of us had it and it was excellent, beautiful batter, soft flaky fish and great chips...with bread and butter!! Following the Thanksgiving service we came back for a... More

My partner and I stumbled upon this pub whilst looking for somewhere to eat for Sunday lunch and we are very glad we did. It's a proper old fashioned, fire in the grate pub, in a beautiful village. The service was first class from start to finish and the food equally so. The bar staff were warm, friendly and extremely courteous,... More

In this day and age it is difficult to find a decent pub which serves food but retains it's pub feeling. The ship manages just that! Excellent vibe at bar for drinkers,..and fresh decent pub grub...veering towards restaurant quality, served by friendly helpful staff. Cosy, real fires and wonderful value for money. I do not drink alcohol, so this is... More
