Fishcakes and Local Trout Lunch

Dropped in for lunch as this looked like a lovely venue. Inside was light and airy, food was quick to appear and very tasty, staff were friendly and it wasn't too pricey.

Superb place. Food is always excellent. Much higher standard than had anticipated - and after hearing very positive things about this place our expectations were high. Decor is spot on and creates a lovely ambience. Prices are fair and menu is well executed. Service is good and atmosphere is great. Overall a great place and ver surprising to find it... More

Easter Sunday lunch - an opportunity for everything to go wrong; casual staff, too many bookings, abbreviated menu ... not at the Chequers. Warm welcome, efficient friendly service (not rushed but no delays), excellent food and a pleasant modern atmosphere in an olde worlde pub. The sharing board was excellent and the beef as tender as it gets. Good seabass... More

I would highly recommend this restaurant/pub. Decor is nice service very efficient and food extremely good I had steak one of the best I have had. My husband had the fish so fresh and batter so light. Not often do I have a pud unless there is creme brûlée one of the best. Would recommend you book as very popular

Gosh where start. The food is always first class. The decor is divine, classy and so different to a village pub. Not that this place with its first class staff led by its first class hands on owner could ever be just a pub. The menu is always full of seasonal and where possible local fresh foods. The customers give... More

My wife and I recently visited this establishment near to a hotel that we staying at. We were very pleasantly surprised when we walked through the door to find that some very energetic and current music was being played by some musicians. The place was buzzing with activity from a party of people celebrating a young lady's birthday. We were... More

We stayed at the Ettington Hotel and found this place on our way back to the hotel the day after we arrived. It's so welcoming, lovely friendly atmosphere with some locals in, open fire roaring and the most amazing food. Wish It was more local as I loved it and wish I could go again. Highly recommend it to everybody

Very welcoming and relaxed in bar area. Their Chequers draught pale ale proved a suitable light lunchtime tipple. Hints of elderflower/hop flowers. Actually all drinks were good. Meal was excellent quality imaginative English food, but with finesse and not stodgy or heavy. Service also excellent, professional, friendly and helpful.

Arrived here on Mother's Day. Busy nothing was too much trouble. Just had a main course. A very tasty black Pudding with poached eggs. Sat by the fire and felt thoroughly relaxed. Plan to come back here in the week. Loving the whole region good with lots of villages to visit.
