A great find

Just what you hope to find in rural France and sadly no longer often do - a welcoming, family restaurant with good-quality, tasty, regional cooking & excellent local wines.

We were given a table for two overlooking the town square, were given menus immediately and helped with French terms by the wife of the chef, who speaks excellent English and who served us herself too. Very friendly couple, who run a cosy restaurant with delicious fare: we both had different versions of duck, which were delicious. Profiteroles like this... More

I was recommended this restaurant by a local vigneron, who also warned me about the somewhat tempremental behaviour of the chef. He could not have been more wrong. The chef and his wife welcomed us into the restaurant and talked to us in both English and French. It must be said we were the only 3 customers that lunchtime, but... More

We went for the wine tasting at chateau feely nearby, and were recommended this restaurant for lunch. We had menu of the day, 3 courses with a glass of wine for only €13.50 each! The food was really lovely, so extremely good value for money. We were greeted by a wonderful host also, who spoke brilliant English so we knew... More

The restaurant is on a small square in Saussignac, a small sleepy village. It is housed in an old building with a terrace outside, covered in vines. The welcome was warm and friendly, which complimented the stone interior pleasantly decorated in a traditional French farm house way. Although there was a €13.50 lunchtime menue, our host insisted we ordered off... More

We wandered into Le Lion D'Or one evening, which is located in the center of the tiny village of Saussignac. What a lucky find! We had a lovely dinner for four (two adults and two children). The food was excellent, the service was warm and the owners were very patient with our off menu requests for the children. If you... More

We stumbled across this little place on our recent visit to the area and I can't speak highly enough for it. The service and food was amazing. So good in fact that we immediately booked for lunch the following week which was equally great. The plat du jour is excellent quality and value. We will return.

We arrived here extremely late after spending 2 hours trying to find our accommodation in neighbouring Gagaec. Service had been over for some time but the hosts put together a delicious meal of local pates , salad and bread following by a selection of cheeses. Local Organic wine was also delicious and the entire meal very reasonably priced. Most importantly... More

We've visited this restarant so many times, venen long before the current owners had it. Vefore it was a very traditiona; high standard and friendly restaurant. With the new owners it is ging down very quickly: they are never opne, even at special occasions (special holidays) they 're closed. They don't like children the cook told us: i'd rather have... What a lovely restaurant this is. We had such a warm welcome on arrival with a genuine excellent service throughout. The menu was explained to us in detail and the food was amazing. The chef came out & said hello. We were recommended lovely wine and had fantastic value for money. Definitely well worth a visit!!!
