We arrived here extremely late after spending 2 hours trying to find our accommodation in neighbouring Gagaec. Service had been over for some time but the hosts put together a delicious meal of local pates , salad and bread following by a selection of cheeses. Local Organic wine was also delicious and the entire meal very reasonably priced. Most importantly... More

We've visited this restarant so many times, venen long before the current owners had it. Vefore it was a very traditiona; high standard and friendly restaurant. With the new owners it is ging down very quickly: they are never opne, even at special occasions (special holidays) they 're closed. They don't like children the cook told us: i'd rather have... What a lovely restaurant this is. We had such a warm welcome on arrival with a genuine excellent service throughout. The menu was explained to us in detail and the food was amazing. The chef came out & said hello. We were recommended lovely wine and had fantastic value for money. Definitely well worth a visit!!!

Absolutely gorgeous and fantastic, tentative warm service. Lovely simple menu, with good variety and exceptional quality. Must check out the Cognac display Thank you Luc and Martine

We stayed for 2 weeks in Saussignac and came to Le Lion d'Or several times for lunch and dinner and always had a warm welcome from chef patron and his wife, superbly cooked menu du jour or a la carte and a choice of local wines. Being able to walk home was great. We seek out low-key, unpretentious and classically... More

This is our neighbours' favourite restaurant - having been three times now we can't understand why. The first time we went with friends in the evening and the food was perfectly good, but not outstanding - we felt it was expensive and poor value (over 30 Euros a head). We went a few weeks ago with our neighbours for lunch... More

Got lost near Bergerac and found this gorgeous country inn in a very quiet village. Typical lunch time fare but fabulous value at under 40 Euros for the two of us. Good service and very filling. It is worth plugging into the sat nav. Also the village itself is worth a wander and there is a good little wine store... More

Family run restaurant was full of character and a nice litte find. Hubby does the cooking while he wife runs the dining room, and together they make you feel very comfortable. (Helps that the Mrs can speak a fair amount of English. The menu has a nice selection and is provided for you at the table on a chalk board.... More

We had a great meal here washed down with a bottle of organic wine from a local vineyard. We were staying locally but it's worth travelling to - lovely French character and fabulously tasty. If the menu had changed we'd have gone back the following eve.

We'd read and heard of Le Lion D'Or several times and decided to check it out today. Saussignac is a sleepy village somewhat off the beaten track, but the Lion D'Or is easy to find and worth a stop. We eschewed the formule (Quiche Lorriane with salad to start, Dourade with saffron rice and haricots vert as the plat du... More
