My whole family went for Sunday lunch recently to celebrate my parent's 40th wedding anniversary. We all ordered from the set menu which is 2 course for 18.95 or 3 courses for 22.95. Everybody was very happy with their meals, and the service was good throughout. The atmosphere is quite relaxed and cosy and because we were quite a large... More

After having just bought my wedding dress in Hillsborough, my mum, bridesmaids and I went to Parsons Nose to celebrate. The service was below poor, and after some sulky comments from the waitress when asked why we were waiting so long for our food, we decided to leave as soon as we finished eating, (she actually went and printed the... The last time we ate here we had to leave immediately after our main course leaving unfinished drinks on the table and no sweet ordered or coffee because the MUZAC was so LOUD and the noise from the kitchen, telephones and clattering service doors was appalling. We popped in again on saturday after a morning shopping and found the place... More

This was our 2nd meal here. We had a table booked for 5pm on Saturday knowing we had to vacate the table by 7pm. On arrival just after 5pm we were informed that our table was not yet ready for us. We eventually got our table at 515. This was surprising as the restaurant was more or less empty &... More

had an early evening meal and got a 'meal deal'. It was worth every penny. beautifully presented and incredibly tasty , modern cuisine but big helpings, would go again and again if I lived nearby. I remember 25 years ago frequenting the place as a pub. Wish they would change the name back to The Marquis of Downshire, just as... More

we went last month after a tip. We weren't disappointed. The house wine was superb. The mussels and sole were fantastic Bring your appetite if you order the pasta and bourginon. Top marks.

I had wanted to try this place for a while as there was a bit of hype about it. It was very disappointing. Was told they didn't have a table available. No attempt made by the barman to give me an idea of when a table would be free I had to ask him. Waited 10-15 mins. Food was terrible.... More

My wife and I visited the restaurant for a late Sunday lunch, having booked a table the previous day. The old adage that "you only get one chance to make a first impression" is very true and our first impression was not particularly positive. We were met by a slightly officious lady who asked us to wait - which was... More

Called in for lunch having heard great reports from our friends and we were not disappointed! Lovely decor and surroundings and absolutely gorgeous food! My husband had the fish pie and I had beef bourguignon - both of which were delicious! Already planning our return visit!

When you read reviews of restaurants its always surprising that different places get such different reviews. Some difference is our different tastes, but I think the real reason is that delivering consistent excellence is just really, really difficult. That's where Danny Millars restaurants really deliver, whether Balloo House or The Parsons Nose. Danny doesn't pretend to be an Ox in... More
