Matchett Made in Heaven

It had been a while since I had eaten in Pier 36, but with its 'sister' bar Ocean Drive being temporarily turned into a car park, I had gone into the premises. I had made a deal with one of the chefs, Chris Matchett, that I would try the food which he would cook. There was much wrangling as I... read more

Set menu provided 2 great meals of tasteful fish pie and homely roast lamb, following delightful starters of goats cheese, balsamic drizzle, etc. Exceptionally pleasent staff in a warm and cosy atmosphere on a chilly evening. Some decor updating would keep pier36 in top nick. Otherwise food, value, service make it worth a visit.

Have eaten here many times, I wouldn't describe the food as outstanding, however it is consistently good. On this occasion we opted for the 'Steak Out' menu (two starters, two steaks (we chose Rib-eye) with side order & bottle of wine - £55). Starters of salt & pepper squid and Goats cheese fritters were fine, The steaks are described on... More

Another busy day at Pier but the service was top class as always. Great selection on the menu and everyone in the family left happy. Lamb shank, sweet and sour chicken, chicken stack, bang bang chicken and the kids steak burger were all enjoyed. If your visiting the Dee then you have to call in

Pier 36 is a friendly family run bar and restaurant. It is very cosy with the roaring fire during the winter months. Espcally good to drop in during a brisk seaside walk at the Commons.

Having had Sunday lunch in Pier 36 I would not return. The service was shockingly slow and I had to get up several times to get drinks and ask for the food order to be taken. Dirty wine glasses were brought to the table and had to be sent back and then another dirty wine glass was produced in exchange.... More

What makes this little empire is the owners and their staff. They are superb. The owners know the business inside out and they saw in Donaghadee a market that could be filled. Fifty years ago the town had three large and thriving hotels, well maybe not, since each of them burnt down. Tis an Irish phenomenon. Bye the bye, along... More

We decided to try Pier for lunch last week as we'd heard a lot of excellent reports on the quality of the food and I have to say, I was not disappointed. Although the choice on the menu wasn't great, we had the mussels to start (Shared), followed by their pie of the day with my girlfriend going for the... More
