We were looking for a kind of local place to try Espetada instead of a fancy tourist one. We asked a local guy who suggested Vidas, because he always come here with his whole family and they like it. We also :) Good meat, slight spices great taste.

Not easy to find, on the corner down a one way side street, some signage would be beneficial. This is a simple, clean, traditional local restaurant. Between the 5 of us we which included 2 children, we decided to have 3 spits (espetadas) to share. One beef, one chicken and one beef on the bone which was by far the... More

Ate here at lunch time - full of locals - always a good sign. Place was recommended to us by a member of our reception staff who lives in this village. Easy to find if you start at the church! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

Another trip to Madeira, and two (!) dinner sessions at As Vides. This is definitely the best place for espetadas. Side dishes of corn, salad and chips extremely yummy as well. Went on a Monday, and the place was quieter, and on a Sunday and the place was bubbling with locals. Definitely a place to return to, over and over... More

Steaks were so amazing, we had to return the following day, hours before our flight back. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Amazing value, similar quality steak would probably cost 5 times as much in London...Definitely worth the drive up to the mountains!

We had to search for this excellent restaurant, it is down a narrow one way street but it was well worth it. It has views out over the surrounding hills and is decked out in traditional style with every table having a bulls head shaped skewer hanger. One other point is that there were lots of locals eating there which... More

If you want to taste typicall food from Madeira, more specifically "espetada", this is a great place. You pay around 8€ per stick, the chips are something wonderful, full of garlic and oregano. Basically it is a good place to eat with quality with a low/medium budget.

This is an excellent restaurant to eat the traditional food of Madeira. Meat skewers, fried corn or excellent steak on "bolo do caco". The local isn't with very easy access, but with some map and asking to local people, you get this restaurant. The employees are very friendly and attentive. The final price is great! We were quite pleased...!

Finding the restaurant is the most difficult part! You will need a good cab driver. Lost in the middle of a little town in the mountains you will feel like you have to deserve the food. But once you reach your point...welcome is heart warming, food is just too good and you won't even believe how cheap it is! Simply... More
