Has to be done!

We went upstairs to the restaurant and shared a Cozido between my wife and I. One portion between two people is plenty. Service was efficient although serving Tetley tea bags was a bit funny. Cozido was enjoyable.

First evening stay in Furnas, desk officer from hotel recommended to dine at Tonys. We would have definitely chosen another place if it were not so late. The food was just eatable but nothing more, interior not worth commenting.

Service was marginal, but the food was great! The spicy prawns were amazing! Good location in downtown Furnas. For more on our travel experiences, see atlinadventures.blogspot.com

Yes, this place is visited by many locals - and yes, it is very reasonable by price. But I think it is overrated, the food was average and served without charme. Should you like more sophisticated food go for the Garden Hotel right at the Park.

Decent place and also has a cafe nearby We went to the restaurant first and since it was too crowded, went to the cafe nearby. The options were nice and the waitresses were friendly..

Knowing that cozido is gastronomically nothing much different than a New England boiled dinner, we still had to try it at Tony's since we wanted the experience of knowing that we had eaten a meal cooked in a fumarole. If you like New England boiled dinner, then you'll like the food. It is bland and 'overcooked' but that is what... More

We wanted to try traditional cozido after watching it being pulled out of the ground in Furnas. There portions were huge! It has large pieces of pork, chicken, beef and blood sausage over rice it was tender and very good. My husband had fried steak which was terrible. There cheese appetizer was wonderful but the wait staff isn't great. Actually... More

Tony's serves authentic stew cooked in the nearby volcanic hot springs (cozido). Cozido consists of a variety of meats, sausages and vegetables. These are baked in crock pots buried in the volcanic mud for about 8 hrs. Generous portion for two is 19euros, good selection of reasonably priced wines.

We were not with a guide group...and just stoped in for lunch...it was alright...the food was pretty bland (maybe they do that on purpose so you can taste the flavor?). Got a portion for one and a salad and that was more than enough for my wife and I....a little pricey but they do have to cook the food in... More

On our trip to Sao Miguel we had to try to the cozida while we were there! Our tour guide, Roberto, made reservations here as it is where he and his wife had their wedding reception many years ago! We had the meat cozida and it was very good...veggies cooked nicely and many kinds of meat. They had us order... More
