Authentic Food of Sao Miguel

Tony's restaurant can be found on one of the main streets in Furnas, or by asking anyone on the street. The menu features fresh fish, meats and the famous cozida nas caldeiras. The cozido is cooked in the hot earth of Furnas, in a hole about one meter deep. A large container is filled with beef... read more

We stopped here for lunch and it was packed even for January. The food was okay by Azorean standards (which is very high) and the service wasn't the best we had on the islands. Still good food for a good price though.

Nothing special regarding the cozido. For 2 is quite expensive (19 eur). The problem of these restaurants is that all things in the plate are counted...

The soup didn't really taste of much and neither did the fish. Should have been a bit cheaper I thought for what it was. Maybe we should have tried the cozida but we saw other people eating it and they didn't look too enamoured. :)

Staff are ok, food is not good. I had burnt omelette with cheese, my friends got old onions in vegetarian pasta and burnt bacon and chicken. Our waiters asked if we wanted cheese with the bread that I ordered, I supposed that it was included but he charged us for that. Very weird and not so good food at all.... More

We called ahead the day before and reserved a table and cozida for two. I had a bottle of Basalt red wine from Pico, we had plenty of bread and local cheese and butter, and the cozida came with rice. The food was well done, and tasty. Cozida in itself is not my cup of tea, but Tony's is an... More

We have eaten at Tony's two years in a row, same great food, large portions and friendly service! The food prepared from volcanic 'ovens' delicious!

A very friendly atmosphere with simple yet functional furnishing. The food is great and the portions are very generous. Came here to taste the traditional stew of Furnas which we liked a lot. Order a stew for two, it was enough for two adults and three children.

We ate here during a day trip to Furnas. Had the traditional stew made in the volcano, it was really good and it was also a lot of food. It's very filling because there is no water added, everything is cooked for a long time in its own juice. Service was ok, nothing special.

We went to Tony's after a day of sightseeing at the lake where the food is cooked in the ground and a soak in the hot springs. The food was locally cooked in the ground. It didn't seem to be cook with any seasoning and was very basic and bland. None the less I am glad we went to experience... More
