We were looking forward to eating here as many reviews suggested we would get local cuisine, not a lot of choice but based on what was in that day. The antipasta was good - reasonable portion and tasty. The pasta was also reasonable but fairly bland choices - tomato (can't remember the other) but no hare or wild boar. The... More

The restaurant is situated up a slight hill, giving you a nice view over the village. We ate here twice while in Tuscany, the service was attentive & swift (even when the restaurant was short staffed). The menu is limited, as you get served what they have prepared however the Tourist menu for €20 is excellent value. You get Antipasti,... More

The small dining room has a real Food Trough for cattle dating back probably 200 years at least which is where the resturant get's it's provocative name "la Mangiatoia" but that is the only special feature a visitor finds here. The service is basic to say the least with no proper menu nor detailed explanation by the man of the... More

We dined here twice and both times were impressed by chef and staff which were welcoming and professional at all times to us. Food is limited as they do one menu but at least the quality does not suffer for this and was the same both nights we visited. They do not speak a lot of English but we managed... More

La Mangiatoia fits in perfectly with the village of Orciatico. You feel that it might not exist without the tourist trade but visit it and it gives a perfect taste of Italy. The choice is limited to what is on the set menu (excellent value at twenty euros) but is cooked fresh and to order. However, that said we revisited... More

In this very picturesque Italian village, La Mangiatoia was the cherry on the cake. It's a family-run restaurant (the son who waited on us the 4 times we went called through to mama) and even looks stereotypically Italian. The food is simple but very well prepared and is actually the best food me and my parents have ever eaten out.... More

It was great to have dinner in an old cattleshed which was accurately renovated respecting its century-old structures. I retain a pleasant recollection of the resturant "La Mangiatoia", where I was several times during my week-long stay in Orciatico. This resturant is run by a pleasant family and the service, though informal, is attendive and cordial. The choise is not... More

I have spent two weeks in this sweet little village in Tuscany, and it was a delightful experience and everyone was so nice. This is why "La mangiatoia", where we (film and cast crew) were eating every day, cannot get away with their bad behaviour. The food is average, sometimes too salty, often overcooked, the wine is cheap supermarket booze... More

Orciatico is a very small sleepy little village about 20 minutes from Volterra, but this little restaurant was worth going for. Family run, honest Tuscan food at really reasonable prices. Lovely little courtyard/balcony outside. Our first night in Tuscany and one of the most enjoyable
