..Chez Julien is in a small hollow next to an ancient Abbey in the wee village of Paunat, France. The setting is delightful as is the owner, Julien. Handsome and friendly ... he greeted us and when we told him who sent us and he led us to the best table on th patio with the best view of the... More

We visited Chez Julien while on holiday from Northern Ireland. Our first impression was the beautiful setting, in a little hollow beside the old church, as if carved purposely for quietness and privacy. We were then captivated by our reception: efficient and friendly - which continued throughout our stay. Three waiters interacted with is during our meal, all of them... More

Wonderful position by the Abbey in this delightful village in The Dordogne. Had Sunday lunch sitting on the patio. They made us very welcome. Good set menu with good choice plus a la carte. The set lunch was good value, which my wife enjoyed. I went for A la carte which was also very enjoyable. Good choice of local wines.... More

A small restaurant nestling next to an Abbey with a large selection from the blackboard menu. In a very relaxed atmosphere Julien and his team are friendly and helpful. Food beautifully presented. Probably need to make reservation.

It was certainly worth the wait.delicious food, free glass of champagne because Julien had decided we had waited too long for our dessert, we actually hadn't noticed as we were all happily chatting. You couldnt wish for a better setting, no issues with parking... I visit the Perigord Noir region regularly and have eaten at this restaurant many times. It's unique selling point is its fabulous setting - next to a lovely church in a large cutting with a little stream running through it. The floodlit restaurant building itself looks like an idealised idea of the perfect French restaurant. It is worth going just... More

We love this restaurant! Had to book up in advance for my son's birthday which was on our annual holiday. It was already booked up weeks in advance but we managed to get in at lunchtime. Had a superb meal. The location is fabulous - recommend booking well in advance. It's well worth a visit!

We dined here in the evening, having booked several days in advance. It is right next to the Abby which is floodlit at night creating a lovely atmosphere. The service was excellent throughout the meal, friendly and well paced. Classic french food - a focus on quality local ingredients. Worth the trip to get here.
