A uniquely wonderful setting for a restaurant

We first visited this restaurant 11 years ago and have returned several times. It is in a wonderfully peaceful location next to an ancient Abbey which is on the Route de Satiago de Compostella. Julien is a charming young man who works very hard to please everyone. The food is good, the service... read more

We enjoyed two meals at Chez Julien during our fortnight in France! Firstly as mentioned by others you need to book. Don't be daunted by that though, we managed to book over the phone with our limited French as the staff speak excellent English. On the first occasion we were warned that our booking might have to be cancelled due... More

Lovely meal in a beautiful setting on a hot summer's evening. Typical French cuisine with friendly and efficient service. As others have said, it is not cheap but in my opinion, worth the price considering all the factors. Popular place on warm summer evening so a good idea if you book. I think they stop serving around 9.30 pm.

Visited Chez Julien while staying with friends in Paunat. Everything from start to finish was perfect. We all chose the Menu du Jour at €15.50 which was excellent value. Service was excellent; will certainly go back.

Really good French food in an old monastery. About half the tables are outdoors so watch out if you've booked on a wet day and the relatively small interior is full! the Menu du Jour offers the best value. You do need to book, it's very popular: When we went the first available booking was 10 days ahead.

This was our first visit chez Julien, it was recommended by a few friends. The setting next to the abbey is fabulous. The food and service matched it. Nothing was rushed and you were made to feel very welcome by the waiters. Would defiantly encourage any one who likes good quality food, wine and service to book and enjoy.

Had dinner here with my wife and kids on a beautiful summer evening. Very nice restaurant in a great setting with the Abby as a backdrop. Traditional French cuisine but the owner also speaks English. Great choises, I certainly reccomend the steak and the tarte with cepes. Reservation is a must and try to get a table outside which is... More

My wife and I dined here. I had the foie gras and confit de canard - both excellent. My wife's steak and cep tart starter were equally good. She had a glass of champagne as an aperitif and spilled most of it accidentally. It was replaced free of charge - nice touch.

Have been going there for many years and the atmosphere and staff, as always, could not be faulted. As to the food itself, I had the set menu with Roquefort cheese pastry to start and fish and vegetables as the main course - and both were delightful. My wife however chose steak from the a la carte menu and when... More

Husband & friends had lunch today under the shade of a grape arbor in the quiet village of Paunat. The only noise was birds, bees and soft conversation. The food was just as delightful and the service was attentive as it should be. I look forward to a return visit.
