Jungle Rain Restaurant is the only one on the island, which tries to resemble the most hidden jungle on the planet. The restaurant is unique in Europe, as its decoration and theme environment simulate a tropical forest. The “robot” animals, the trees and decorative plants, and the special effects with background music recreate a genuine “forest” that makes your meal a very special and unforgettable experience. There, you can closely observe the behavior and the wild roaring of several animals in their habitats, such as the lion, gorillas, an elephant, the anaconda or a crocodile. Simulated thunderstorm, fog and rain complete the scenery and give it a more realistic touch. We offers you the best in traditional Madeiran and Portuguese cuisine, as well as special dishes of wild meat.

Raw Chicken

The place itself was very nice but my salad had sliced chicken in, which was very clearly completely raw in the middle. The waitress took it back to be re-cooked (I'd have preferred a new one) and returned without an apology or any sort of offer on the bill.

Stopped off here as part of a Thomson arranged trip. Included in the price of the whole day trip was a 3 course lunch at the Jungle Rain. Very tired and dated place; toilets filthy and smelly. Food - where do I start? Starter was a broth with some sort of meat in it, disgusting. Main was a claggy clump... More

Despite all the poor reports, we visited again to sample their barbequed Madeiran sausages. We'd been out all day and were feeling peckish. The waitress came over shortly after we sat down and we ordered one portion between the two of us since we knew from our previous visit that that would be more than enough. No problem, she brought... Stopped here on a very foggy day for lunch included in a jeep safari trip. Three course lunch of lovely wholesome soup, choice of chicken or fish and I had the chicken which was excellent, followed by pancake with chocolate sauce. This was all served with a smile and with no unacceptable delays. On a foggy day this place was... More

Called in here for a three course lunch as part of a trip with Thompson holidays. Service was excellent food was amazing great quality and plenty of it. The are animated jungle animals scattered around the room and when turned on make a lot of noise! Luckily they were only on for a short time. We really enjoyed it here... More

It was a friend's birthday and we stopped for some coffee and maybe a slice of cake. I asked her if the cake was fresh and she said, yes of course, its always fresh. Ordered two slices of cake, one a biscuit cake and the other lemon tart. The biscuit was hard and dry. The lemon number not too bad.... More

We called in for a late afternoon meal after a nearby levada walk. When we arrived, one other table was occupied by a local family and I could see they were finishing their deserts and had enjoyed their meal - a promising start. In contrast to other reviews, our meal arrived promptly, was of good quality and the service was... More

The waiting staff were very slow to take our order, and we waited 25 minutes to get drinks. They claimed they were busy, but they were not. When the food came it was incomplete and the waiter had the gall to claim that we had not ordered the missing items. Avoid this place...it is a trap for unwary tourists.

The Paul da Serra is a wild, gorse covered mountain top plain (vaguely reminiscent of the Scottish moors) which runs half the length of the island. It’s quite a long drive by Madeiran standards and there is only one place for refreshment: Jungle Rain. This is a small complex with rooms, a large restaurant with a jungle theme (with wild... More

Was there last week with my husband. A kitschy look and fust alerted us from the first step. We would have better gone but we were hungry, and decided to give it a try. We'd better not. The meal overall was fine, but... We were not offered the wine list to make our choice, and the waiter desperately insisted on... More
