Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins. It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river. Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park.
It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment. Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "

If you are ever in the area you MUST try this restaurant! From the gorgeous setting to the beautiful views- it is a sublime place to dine- but wait until you get to the food! We chose the Signature degustation menu with matching wines. The service was exceptional- as was the food. We were given extra little treats as we... More

We were 4 friends who were on a road trip in the Douro valley and stopped to eat lunch at the restaurant. This is a really good restaurant located by the Douro river! The food is simply amazing! It's the first time I've ever wanted to lick the plate to catch all the wonderful flavors! :) Everything is perfect, the... More

This is a well placed restaurant on the banks of the Douro. Beautiful setting and beautiful people who prepare and serve the meals. We chose the two devastation menus including the wines . Superb combination of tastes presented without fuss. We were not hurried and often the waiters asked at which pace we wished to proceed. It was the highlight... More

Our stop at DOC Rui Paula (www.ruipaula.com) was included in our Duoro Exclusive Guided Tour (www.douroexclusive.com) and was quite enjoyable. We sat outside on the deck overlooking the Douro River and enjoyed fresh breads, local red/white wines, ports, fish soup, pork, and rich desserts. Each course was delivered at the perfect time and the wait staff were very friendly and... More

This is a good restaurant next to the river Douro with beautiful views. The food is good, but not stunning. Service was very good, not stiff, but very friendly and professional.' If you visit the Douro valley, you should come here to dine.

The setting is impressive with sleek modern architecture hovering over the river. Inside, it is fairly formal with starched table linen, waiters tucking in your chair, and individual menus. We had one of the set meals, which sounded daunting, but each course was a modest tasting portion of exactly the right size. They take their cooking very seriously, and every... More

Stunning modernistic architecture arcing out over the Douro river, refined comfortable interior. Deck over the river outside for the summer travellers. A fierce loyalty to the foods and wines of the region especially the newer table wine appellation, all presented in an innovative and delicate manner. A nice counterpoint to the traditionalism of Port and the valley. Shows how the... More

While exploring the Douro Valley we were taken here by our local guide and had an amazing meal. The setting is spectacular - with beautiful views of the river on an expansive deck. I had lunch here as part of The Douro Exclusive tour. It was included in the price and the menu was fixed (although we were able to make adjustments as needed - the chef is awesome like that). Rui Paula is a well known chef in the region and I'm now definitely a fan! The food was fantastic as was... More
