Description: Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins. It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river. Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park.
It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment. Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "

Haute Cousine not better than average. The 2 stars I am giving is just because the view from the terrace and the wine list that was quite reasonable. The service is just regular. I did not reached the expectations. For sure I will not return back

Great food, great view and an amazing time. The food was absolutely delicious. The outside sitting area was so awesome - took my breath away.

The restaurant has a terrace with breathtaking views over the river Douro and the Douro valley vineyards. My husband and I each had a different tasting menu. The food was on par with tasting menus at the fanciest restaurants in our hometown of Chicago. The whole experience was totally unexpected, suggested to us by our private tour guide. All in... More

The taster menu with individual wines and port served with each course was fabulous. We sat on the terrace overlooking the river Douro and it really was a memorable experience. Not cheap, bout well worth it if you are looking for something special during your stay.

We ate here as part of a tour with Douro Exclusive Tours. We can't say enough good about this restaurant. Gorgeous location, wonderful service and amazing food. Quite frankly our meal here was one of the most enjoyable meals we have ever eaten. We started with sparkling wine and local breads. The amuse bouche was lovely (a pork slider). We... More

Often, as my rule of thumb, restaurants with 'outstanding', 'awesome' or 'breathtaking' views serve average food as you're distracted by what's outside of the window and not on your plate. DOC breaks this rule. The food was outstanding, awesome and breathtaking...it was also very tasty and I'd have happily sat with my eyes closed and eaten my meal. The restaurant... More

When on holiday I tend to steer clear of "celebrated" restaurants, as they are places I can (and do) visit in London where they are usually better. This place is good though. The location is wonderful - perched on the edge of the Douro. Service crisp and professional, but right side of friendly. Food, a delight. Special, different but not... More

Great food and service. Staff speak very good English . I had the Menu do Azeite (olive oil tasting menu) with wine pairing - €105. Excellent! Right next to the Douro River. Great food, service and location.

When in this part of the Douro Valley the DOC is a must. You'll be cheating yourself out of a spectacularly European view and an onslaught of sophisticated culinary expressions with the possibility to enjoy it all with expertly paired wines from the region. Somehow my glass was never empty. Don't live in regret!

Superb place, delicious food, great staff and professional service. Huge selection of wines. The food is modern, one may say mediterranean but with a subtile but noticeable portugese touch. Loved it, I went there twice during my stay and will go back!
