Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins.

It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river.

Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park.
It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment.

Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "

Loved this restaurant! Excellent setting on the water and amazingly fantastic food. I loved the soft eggs with mushrooms and bread crumbs and the duck leg confit was out of this world. The desserts (we got the sample of 4 Portuguese desserts) was very good as well. The foie gras was OK and the cod was good, but not amazing.

We had lamb and Duck, with vinhas velhas by Rui Paula. The personnel was pleasent and professoral, but we did not liked the meal... Extremly expensive for a meal that was nothing special at all...

We had lunch here as part of a private wine tour experience and were very pleased. Service was very efficient and attentive. Extensive and very thoughtful wine selections. Food and pairings were perfect. The setting is stunning and quite frankly the views are everything... Great dining option when visiting the Douro Valley. Cheers!

Although the service wasn't really great, every item was delicious, the wine pairing was great. The view of the lake and little village in the mountain is very romantic. This is an expensive restaurant for Portugal but well worth the price.

We came here as part of a group of 24 on a wine tour. It has a lovely setting on the banks of the Douro. We started with aperitifs on the decking ( if you are chilly, blankets are provided), then moved inside for a 7 course tasting dinner. All courses were delicious and beautifully presented. Service was impeccable -... More

I should have known better. It was a rainy Monday evening at the end of Oct and there were only 2 other people in the restaurant that evening. It is a beautiful location and the staff is lovely. I ordered the shrimp in garlic appetizer which turned out to be a bottom feeding crustacean where they split the head and... More

We had the Chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. Really exceptional dishes and exquisite wines. Fun pairings and taste/ texture combinations. We even met 2 local wine makers who came to the table and discussed their wines. We just had a fantastic evening overlooking the river and experiencing Rui Paula's creations.

We spent 6 days and 7 night in the Douro Valley wine region and it was about as magnificent as it could possibly be. One of the highlights of our trip was dinner at Doc. we had a 9 course meal with some items I had never tasted in my life. One of the first thing they brought out was... More

The location is stunning. The restaurant is located literally on the river Duoro. We had an equally spectacular evening with a group of friends. Modern international with a Portuguese twist and an absolute focus on getting all the details right to provide a flawless dinner experience. Including some great local wines, naturally!
