Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins. It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river. Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park.
It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment. Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "

We had an amazing meal here having travelled from Porto for the day. We combined with a lovely boat trip and port wine tasting. We had the 4 course tasting with wine which was outstanding.

Great architecture, build on the Douro River. The view from the terrace is wonderful. We reserved a table inside, but when we arrived we asked if it was possible to eat outside, and they could manage to get us a table. Service is very friendly. Best part of all: the food! We’ve ordered 2 different menus (Olive Oil and Signature)... More

Unless you rent a boat and arrive that way (as at least one large table did, eating in swim suits with cover ups), you likely will drive here as we did, so we decided against the wine paired degustation menu and ordered off the regular menu. Lunch was so great we came back again the next day. Nearly everyone chose... More

This was a special place. We did not try the menu since it was too big for a dinner and just took "low temperature egg" and then a mix of seafood. Everything was very well cooked and presented with original taste. Dessert (a mix of desserts) was also very nice. Service was very good (even too much attention) and very... More

I have stopped here on out little cycle adventure with my partner. At first I though it was more like a place to have a drink but we tried the food and I got to say I was very pleasantly surprised. I had a fish stew and it was very good. Lot of flavours nicely layered.

We'd heard a lot about this restaurant, but on the night we went it just didn't work. The service was haphazard (we asked for some bread three times before receiving it), and while some of the food was good, most dishes were pretty average. My fish soup was not a rich broth, but more like a pale consommé with a... More

For the combination of food ambience views and service it's probably our best meal ever. Which includes numerous Michelin starred restaurants. The dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. I had the wine pairing which was great. And what an outlook - just go there! Highly recommended.

Fantastic meal in one of the best locations in a wine region in the world. Set on the river, the view alone is worth the price of the meal. The service is the most attentive we have experienced (without being over the top). Each dish is a dinner experience and tells a story. We both did the tasting menu, and... More
