Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins. It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river. Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park.
It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment. Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "

The setting is impressive with sleek modern architecture hovering over the river. Inside, it is fairly formal with starched table linen, waiters tucking in your chair, and individual menus. We had one of the set meals, which sounded daunting, but each course was a modest tasting portion of exactly the right size. They take their cooking very seriously, and every... More

Stunning modernistic architecture arcing out over the Douro river, refined comfortable interior. Deck over the river outside for the summer travellers. A fierce loyalty to the foods and wines of the region especially the newer table wine appellation, all presented in an innovative and delicate manner. A nice counterpoint to the traditionalism of Port and the valley. Shows how the... More

While exploring the Douro Valley we were taken here by our local guide and had an amazing meal. The setting is spectacular - with beautiful views of the river on an expansive deck. The menu was very creative and every item we had was beautifully presented. We were served a delightful amuse bouche as well as great palate cleanser. All... More

I had lunch here as part of The Douro Exclusive tour. It was included in the price and the menu was fixed (although we were able to make adjustments as needed - the chef is awesome like that). Rui Paula is a well known chef in the region and I'm now definitely a fan! The food was fantastic as was... More

We had lunch here while touring the Douro. We had a Pre Fixe menu (arranged prior to our visit) that included wines. Everything was incredible - in taste and presentation. Service was impeccable. Location is beautiful as well.

I knew Chef Rui Paula food, since i already had gone to DOP and Casa de Cha da Boa Nova restaurants previously so I took this visit to the Douro valley to meet his first restaurant, DOC . The restaurant has a sophisticated atmosphere and a fantastic view of the Douro River. We choose the Douro tasting menu with 7... More

We ordered the Douro as well as the Signature tasting menu for lunch. Every course reflects the use of fresh local ingredient, and it is well thought-out to represent Douro (and to some extent, Portuguese) cuisine. However, if you are going to offer €100+ menu we would expect the dining experience to match the price we pay. We ran into... More

OK -- the view is absolutely amazing. We sat outside on a deck right on the river for lunch. It was just gorgeous, as we had great weather. The service is great and the food is not to be believed. We had the prix-fix lunch with wine pairings. It was not a cheap lunch, but it was extraordinary and well... More

Located close to the Douro river this restaurant has got a great view. On warm and nice summer days it would be great to sit outside and watch the Riverboats passing by. I think I had one of the best meals ever in this restaurant. They really know how to make the Bacalao. Friendly and servicemindes personell. I will certainly... More
