Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins. It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river. Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park.
It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment. Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "

The spot is amazing, middle of the douro valley at the river. We expected a lot of this restaurant, we got surprised.. But not in a good way! They ask huge prices, which i dont mind if the quality of the food is worth it, but you expect something special of the food in that case. That was definitely not... More

One of the best meals I've ever had! We had the tasting menu with wine matching, fantastic! The staff and the kitchen all working perfectly. Plates being served at the right time and our glasses, although being a tasting menu, always full of wine. Certainly pricey, but you are paying for what they really deliver. Really recommend this place!

This was a must visit for the Douro Valley for us, especially as it was the night before the restaurant closed for their winter vacation. However, this did not prevent the food from being top notch! We chose the signature menu, which consisted of seven courses including dessert. We matched the menu with the second wine menu, which was carefully... More

We were underwhelmed by this meal despite the gorgeous setting on the Douro River. We started with two glasses of white wine - both lovely and ordered starters. Shrimp with a truffled cream sauce and I honestly cannot recall what my husband ordered. Both were good but not amazing for the 18E price tag each. We had ordered a bottle... More

This is an unusually located near-world-class restaurant, by the edge of a scenic road through an unremarkable village, on a modern deck on the South bank of the Duoro river, with a tanquil outlook over river, vineyards and hills (why does a meal taste so much better when eaten with a view of water?). Food outstanding and meticulous - not... More

What can you say! The settings is very nice, beautiful deck facing the river Douro, but the food was much, but very much below any standard you expect from a restaurant that implies it serves 3 star food. The starters were OK ( can’t expect less) but both fish plates that followed were a disaster. I had the Peixe-Galo with... More

Liked this restaurant a lot. It is very expensive indeed, but it has one of the nicest views I have ever seen in a restaurant. The food matches its price. And the service too.

Beautiful and modern restaurant on the border of the Douro River. The menu is ample with lots of dishes you really want to choose. Didn't have a problem with the wine because I was recommended an excellent Riesling by Rui Paula which I chose immediately. The service was impecable and the hostess very helpful. The deserts were just astonishing. Not... More

We rather casually selected this restaurant based on recommendations from the quinta where we were staying. Made reservations and had no difficulty finding it as it is right along the main highway that runs along the Duoro River. The interior is modern, and featured tables for all sizes of clients. One of the most interesting features was a flat screen... More
