Recommended by one of the local folks. This place is a gem in the jungle. We enjoyed local dishes that were delicious. Service is friendly, tables are clean (not sticky), Seems lots of locals are regulars at this restaurant. Great menu with something for everyone. I would recommend eating here

This is one of our regular places for a great meal at reasonable prices. The service is always excellent. The food is typical Tico, and always good. The weekends will find the place crowded with families out enjoying a meal. Great ceviche, ribs and corvina. Nice view too.

This restaurant is off the main road a bit, but certainly findable (TripAdvisor map was off). It was very reasonably priced. We found that the locals definitely frequent this place, and we see why. The beef and short ribs were very good!

The Guanacaste has been my favorite Atenas restaurant for along time. Their costilla is the best in Costa Rica - unless you do not like smoked ribs. In that case, order the ceviche. I typically order a couple of bocas. You guessed it, the ceviche and the costilla. Guanacaste also consistently has cas. If you do go for a costilla... More

We ate dinner at this restaurant one evening in July. Our taxi driver recommended it as one of his favorites. It is just outside of Atenas and is open on three sides which is good because you will get the occasional breeze. I ordered the sea bass which was pan fried and delicious, it was served with grilled vegetables and the... More

I decided to try this restaurant out after hearing about it from several friends here and reading a few reviews. the food was good but no better than many other places I've been in Atenas and it cost a bit more. The chocolate batido I had was the best so far in Costa Rica and the portion of chicken I... More

Guanacaste has a cabana like setting allowing you to eat outdoors yet protected from the rain and sun. I had a ceviche tapas which was excellent. Their french fries (which have become a Costa Rican obsession) were perfect and plentiful. Tico, not gringo prices. Only downside is that it's about a mile out of town so you'll need a car... More

I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was really great, tucked away off of a busy road. Their mixed drinks were delicious and food as well. I would recommend.

Guanacaste is one of our favorite restaurants in Atenas. It features excellent Tico food at very reasonable prices in a very nice environment. In addition to full meals, the menu contains quite a number of "bocas" or small portions, which are really not that small. I usually order two bocas when I want a full meal and since they cost... fairly typical tico (with some American) type food - very plentiful, esp. the casados. Nice outdoor atmosphere (with a roof) with plenty of parking. Prices are reasonable and the service was friendly and responsive.
