fairly typical tico (with some American) type food - very plentiful, esp. the casados. Nice outdoor atmosphere (with a roof) with plenty of parking. Prices are reasonable and the service was friendly and responsive.

Make the effort, to find this restaurant, it was a fun place to be. All open air ( with a roof) as you'd expect, with cars parking round the edge. Service was fine and the food was tasty.
A little out of the way but worth it. The food was wonderful and prices were good. Staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The sea bass is out of this world! Highly recommend it!
Our group of five adults visited this restaurant on the late side of Valentine´s Day. It was packed but we were able to find a table. The service was remarkably good considering the hour. Mario and team have a great Tico restaurant. Their fish dishes are exceptional, the pork the best in Atenas!
Experience true Tico food! Relaxed outdoor seating in the most amazing weather you will find on the planet!
Restaurante Guanacaste sits on a hillside just west of Atenas and is open on three sides. The breezes waft through gently. I especially enjoy their filet of corvina (sea bass) served generously with fresh vegetables and rice. My adult son had prime ribs which he said were wonderful. Service is prompt, polite and efficient. Prices are low by international standards....

My wife and I have been to Guanacaste several times. The food is great, and the service is as well. They also do an excellent job with large groups--always getting the order right and bringing the food out quickly. This is a hidden gem in Atenas.
Now this is the best restaurant in Atenas, bar none. The Guanacaste consistently has the best food all the time ... especially the Sea Bass (Corvina), garlic shrimp (camarones al ajillo), chifrijo (a Costa Rican specialty), and the pork ribs (costillas de cerdo). The ceviche is the best in town. Oh, the tortilla soup also! For wine, ask for the...
