Chicken Soup for the Soul at La Carreta

Although I often eat at La Carreta to sample their food and their library, I just discovered that during the rainy season a great option is their chicken soup with coco/coconut. That extra ingredient makes this dish especially flavorful.

I had a great meal here and also borrowed a book to read from the free lending library. The restaurant is easy to find and has a large and varied menu, everybody at my table enjoyed their meal and we all got plenty of food too.

Three of us made a road trip from Playa Jaco to Atenas to meet a couple of friends for lunch at this place, where they maintain a free lending library. All five of us enjoyed our meals & were satisfied with the prices. The staff is pleasant & the atmosphere is nice. The location is just steps from a large... More

Great food - but also great books to borrow. I loved the idea of borrowing and returning books at your leisure, especially as I had run out of reading material. The food was amazing - try the comidas typica!

We had excellent meals here. Garlic shrimp was the best we had. Drinks were ok. Presentation was wonderful. For dinner our plates were served on a banana leaf.

The food is good and comes with a smile. We came back several times and borrowed a couple of books from their free library.

This was our second visit. Burgers are great, but the BBQ Ribs not so much, pointed out that they were very fatty and manager corrected and was upset by his suppliers quality. Very good menu and great atmosphere, they also have a lending library with close to 2,000 books

Well worth finding it. The food is really good with very large portions. The coffee is worth the trip alone. The owner and staff are some of the most pleasant we met. We made a point of eating here a couple of times.

La Carreta is a typical good-food Costa Rican small town restaurant. We haven't had anything mediocre and will go out of our way to grab some of their best entres. Top of the menu list is their fried shrimp. Very large shrimp, breaded and fried just right in a quantity that will fill the biggest appetite. Our second favorite is... More
