Two non-spanish speaking gals venturing out for lunch can be somewhat scary, but we absolutely loved the food and service at this roadside restaurant. I honestly could not tell you what we ate but it was delicious. The waitress went above and beyond trying to explain the menu as best she could. If you are staying in the area and... More

At the very popular La Fiesta de las Pupusas Restaurant in Atenas, Costa Rica, founded 32 years ago by Salvadoran immigrant Julia Flamenco, pupusas are made with 100% homemade cornmeal dough called masa. No flour (so no gluten worries), no salt, and no oil is added. They make their own cornmeal from fresh corn -- no processed ingredients! Expert pupusa... More

We met some friends for dinner there a few weeks ago. I had never had pupusas but really enjoyed them. They're not the healthiest foods but my 3 year old twins enjoyed them, they are fast, and cheap! This is a very family friendly restaurant. All of the guests were playing with my crazy kids. The only down side is... More

The pupusas restaurant was excellent! Pupusas were excellent. I had never had anything like them before and found them to delicious and filling. The prices were excellent and the food was great. I highly recommend the restaurant for a tasty lunch with friends and family.

If you have never had popusas before, this is the time for you to start! Popusas are originally from El Salvador, they are fried hand made tortillas stuffed with chicharron (pork rind), beans and cheese. This place is usually full which tells you a lot about it. The service is a little bit slow, but it's for the same reason.... More

A pupusa is kind of like a combo egg fu yung and crepe. This restaurant in very near my house, and popular, because most of the locals are having pupusas, which are quite cheap, about $2. The best one is with pork, called chicharones here. Goes well with a Bavaria Dark beer. There are other things on the menu at... More

This place is simple but the food is very good, they have good service and they are in the way to the beach so it is a good way to finish or start the trip to the beach.

La Fiesta is on the left side of the main road heading into Atenas. A little Spanish will help you with the Menu. We had breakfast, one basic, one traditional Tico offering. Everything was tasty, although we were at odds on how to ask for jelly for the toast. You are roadside here, so the noise is a bit much... More

Never knew what pupisas' were but now we know. They are little hand made pancakes that are fried. You can have shrimp, meat or vegetarian. We have had the fried chicken, hamburger and a steak. It only cost $18 for 3 people last time. They are a busy place just east of Atenas and by the turn off for Los... More

With a little taste of my first pupusa, I was hooked. Great food, and a lot of atmosphere if you like TICO TRENDY!! Nice group of people.
