What a find

Went to see the world's biggest ice caves and "accidentally" found the best meal we have ever had. We have all travelled extensively and found the entire experience and cuisine to be wow wow wow. Don't miss it. South of Salzburg, take the train the Werner. All in town know it, easy to find and... read more

A very classy restaurant in an attractive village overlooked by the Festung and at the start of tours to the nearby ice caves. Can't comment on the Festung or the caves - we only went there to eat. And well worth-while it was too. This is formal, imaginative Austrian cooking with some modern twists, but not too many. Well into... More

After a walk at the Ice Caves and a long day we stumbled on Restaurant Obauer. The fortunate turn of events led us to this fantastic hotel restaurant. Slipping in after 9:00 PM, we we're met by a team of waiters, sommelier, interpreters and a menu frankly second to none. We've been fortunate, and have traveled to some great locations,... More

Exciting seasonal plates made of fresh local products. Fantastic food-wine pairing. The service is perfect.

We went to Obauer on a recommendation from our hotel. The trip from Salzburg to Werfen is very easy and pretty, and Werfen is a town worth spending the afternoon in before your dinner (it has a hilltop fortress and ice caves). Getting to the point, the food was excellent. The chef had creative riffs on local ingredients, making you... More

We went to Obauer for lunch and had a great one. The service is excellent but more importantly the food was fantastic. The ingredients were great and the combinations different but very well executed. I can highly recommend going to this restaurant. As some other reviewers have said already it's a nice ride to get to Werfen from Salzburg, either... More

Dined at the restaurant whilst staying in Salzburg and what a massively good decision that was. Werfen is a 40 minute train ride from Salzburg and if done by day, the ride itself is simply beautiful. The train more or less follows the Salzach river providing wonderful views if the snow capped alps and all that makes Austria so stunning.... More

Was on a quick weekend trip to Salzburg from London and exploring good restaurants guided by tripadvisor reviews is something I really enjoy doing and boy do I get a buzz out of it when I'm right! The spectacular views on the 40min train ride or werfen provided for some amazing photo opportunities. Werfen in itself is a small quietish... More

We have been eating here at least once a year at Obauer during the last 10 years (more than 10 years). We have never been disappointed by the quality and creativeness of food. New Years Eve is also nice to dine here and also during Salzburg music festival season. The staff can explain menu a little bit more loudly, so... More

This was one of the best meals that we have encountered on our travels in Europe. We had read about Hotel Restaurant Obauer from links in one of our gourmet magazines, and since we were staying in St. Johan, just seven miles from Werfen, we had to visit. The service was memorable, with very gracious and helpful assistance provided to... More
