Great food

Really enjoyed eating here, the food is excellent quality, whether you eat I the bar or the restaurant. Don't be put off that it is not been "gentrified" the carpet may not be modern Gastropub chic but the food and service is fab.

I'd heard good reports about Scalloway but I was bitterly dissappointed. Service was really poor. I hope this was an off night I'm sure it was, alas I won't be visiting again. Expensive mistake.

It's always really disappointing for us to read reviews like this, and we are very sorry that you didn't enjoy your meal with us. It's difficult to respond more fully, as we don't have any information on why you felt the service was so bad. We do warn customers that they may have to wait a while to be served... More

Stopped by the hotel for drinks and dinner in a toss up with the chinese - we were not disappointed at all. Good beer, sitting in the sun (can't promise this) and the roast lamb was just superb. Tasty, decent portion, excellent quality. Would go back for sure.

Visiting Shetland every second year we have been to Scalloway Hotel the first time. Our local friends invited us to a really unforgettable meal with the best of local food. Fish, lamb, or beef – all of it was first quality and extraordinary well made. We sat almost on the same seats as David Cameron some days before, when he... More

Came here for dinner last night. Shared lamb starter which was a bit disappointing. Steak was slightly overlooked but final quarter was great. The best bit was the gravy which was amazing. Best thing ever ever. Partner had lobster which again was slightly overlooked. Banana desert interesting but wouldn't have again. Cheese board fabulous. The meal wouldn't have scored as... More

We were at the Scalloway Hotel last Saturday. There was a nice welcome when we arrived and the service throughout was first class. The quality of the food was superb. My wife had the lamb which was melt in the mouth. I had the Hake which was a quality dish from start to finish. I must talk about the chips.... More

My Wife and I booked dinner in the restaurant for our anniversary, as we have done so for a few years now. We have eaten at the Scalloway hotel regularly, as it is only 2 minutes walk from home, and we were expecting a great dinner out. We were not disappointed! On arrival, we were pleasantly greeted and shown to... More

after calling in for coffee we decided to book a table in the restaurant for a meal with friends and it was worth it. Although packed the staff were friendly and helpful. The home made bread and 4 butters quickly passed the time until starters, including "pigs head" arrived. All were delicious especially the pigs head. A perfectly cooked set... More

Had a family meal for a birthday, with 4 adults. Food was delicious, and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. We went on a Sunday and it was quiet. The service was super, I can't find any faults. Would highly recommend the fish - it was very fresh and cooked to perfection.

We stayed in the Scalloway Hotel in July 2014 and it is a lovely place, clean, friendly and homely..... the restaurant is really nice a bit pricey but that is to be expected in such a place as only gets a short tourist trade.

Thanks for your review. We're pleased you enjoyed your stay with us last summer. With regard to your comment about prices in the restaurant, they are pretty much par for the course for cooking of two AA rosette standard. Evening meals also include complimentary canapés, amuse bouches and petit fours, as well being served on fine china, with drinks in... More
