We arrived at mahabalipuram around lunch time. We choose this restaurant as it was only one around which looked clean and was open(during off season). This is right at the end of othavadi street by the beach opposite to santana restaurant and hotel. The fried prawns were pretty good but the calamari was over cooked and almost all fried items... We - a group of 5, including our Indian tour leader - arrived here expecting great things, After being shown the fresh fish on offer we made choices from the menu. The waiter took orders from 4 of our group but categorically ignored our Indian friend and walked away. When challenged about this, the waiter, and also the owner denied... More

Make sure you get the right one if you're trying to follow in 'Ricky's' footsteps. There are 2 restaurants with very similar names very close to each other. If you want to follow Rick Stein's adventure, you want the one closest to The Shore Temple. We arrived in the dark for an evening meal and got the wrong one. We... More

My friends and I went to this beach side outdoor restaurant overlooking gorgeous sandy beaches and sea. Having seen Rick Stein's BBC series on Indian Cuisine throughout India and Rick selecting this simple beach side restaurant as his single NUMBER ONE signature cuisine for the series had us intrigued. Was the accolade really worthy? In several words: OMG OMG YES... More

Excellent food! We'd ordered fish curry and rice, fried prawns and calamari, fries for the kids. The fish and prawns were so fresh, they had probably just been caught. However, the service was rather slow, even for a can of coke. Overall however I think we got value for money and will definitely go there on our next trip to... More

The spicy masala tava fried fish and tiger prawns are the only good stuff that you can get here...and they are really good!!. Make sure you bargain hard for the days catch and you'll get a good deal, and then tell them specifically to have it TAVA fried with their "special" masala. The restaurant is bang on the beach so... Seduced by the idea of eating fish from the days catch cooked just for us while we waited. When it came it was cool "blackened" and accompanied by a few chips. It was edible but poor value.
