My wife and myself had lunch last week at Santana Rooftop Restaurant at Mahabalipuram. The restaurant commands a fantastic view of the shore temple. We lunched at the top floor of the restaurant with a lovely breeze in attendance. It was more a glorified beach shack serving very tasty food and located with a great view . As we entered... More

We went to Santana for lunch while at Mahaballipuram in Feb 2013. Our driver took us to there when we asked him where we could get the best local flavours. Initially we were skeptical since we were the only ones there. It's a rooftop restaurant with a fantastic view of the shore temple. the fresh catch of the day was... More

We ended up here for dinner as we stayed right below. All the curries tasted the same, prawn or squid.Worst of all it was all overly tangy (too much tamarind). when we asked for fresh sea food he quoted 2000rs for a lobster and several hundreds for the prawn. It was more expensive than rates for same raw stuff at... More

I regularly eat at Santana rooftop as it has one of the best views of the Shore Temple and the locals and foreigners enjoying the ocean. The food is moderately priced and it has had a major overhaul in the last year. I always ask for the specials and the freshest seafood. My favourite dishes is Masala fried prawns, the... More

Location is great, first floor, open and on the beach overlooking the towns fishing fleet. The restaurant was more a cafe style in furnishings and could have done with a good sweeping out. We had large tiger prawns grilled (selected from fish display), vegetable rice and french fries washed down by Kingfisher beer. the food was good but the prawns... More

We had two super fresh lobsters, which i hand pick from their tank. They tasted great. They were served with fried vegetable rice. We also had fried squid and chips. The squid was also fresh. As desert we had pancakes, they were not good but also not bad.

we went there twice but could not believe how BAD it was, food was worse than bad, dirty tables everywhere, no staff. This place actually runs raw sewage onto the beach/ water so avoid swimming anywhere near this place, when we were the (2012 they bulldozed the beach to add extra parking!! Restaurant is full of very drunk load locals... More

OK the waiter is a bit grumpy but on a hot afternoon a couple lagers and a reasonable meal overlooking the beach this place is a great hangout!!

The best part of this restaurant is its location right on the ocean. We were able to enjoy good food in an open air setting while watching the activity on the beach. One of the specialties is the fresh prawns that are brought in daily. There are several sizes including giant prawns.

A very good "beach" restaurant, casual outdoor atmosphere. Excellent fresh fish and prawns, had some Indian style and some simply grilled. Very friendly waiter. The chef came to the table to be sure all was okay.
