Holiday meal

We had dinner here with the kids on our recent holiday to the area - decent pub food in well presented surroundings - its on a main road but then easy to get to and good if you are passing through on a journey. Pleasant service from the young waiting staff - thank you.

We'd driven past this Inn many times in our travels up the A35, this time we were on our way home and needed lunch on a Sunday, having skipped breakfast... Hunters Lodge appeared... Warm welcome, offered choice of seating in the bar or restaurant area -we opted for the bar... Fully waited on service (including drinks) by friendly staff - had starters... More

We happened upon this pub out of desperation late one evening when our previous plan changed at the last minute. The hardworking staff couldn't have been more helpful, keeping us aware of the likely waiting time. We sat in the bar rather than the restaurant area. The place was very busy for a Monday night, but everyone was well looked... More

Gets busy Fri and weekends, so may be best to book. Varied menu with lots of 'specials'. Very welcoming to people with dogs or children, but... More

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon; I had to work and drove to Thorncombe to meet a client. As it was such a nice day, my wife and pet dog came for the ride. I had finished by lunchtime so we decided to get a shandy, maybe a glass of wine at a country pub. We drove for a while... More

Just along from Monkton Wyld caravan site, they say you could walk, but the roads are very busy. Smashing pub, lots of ambience and good food. Also free w-fi.

We are locals and booked (best to avoid disappointment) for a Birthday meal over Easter. We had rib eye steaks which were excellent, cooked to perfection, enough chips for 4 (there were 2 of us), homemade onion rings, masses of mushrooms and the Hunters Lodge unique salad (one of the best ever). Lovely pub, lovely food, lovely Team, thanks Nev... More
