Great Frites and beer. Old school waiters who seem a bit stern but are really excellent at their job.

I just came for a good Belgian beer and I still received the best service from a gentleman. The atmosphere is really nice and authentic. Although it was late in the evening guests kept comimg bogholder toeat and drink.

Even though located on a busy tourist street (Waterloo) The Trappist maintains the comfortable ambiance of a neighborhood bistro. Most of the tables are occupied by resident Belgians, and the menu is sprinkled with local specialties,,,mussels, vol de vent, meat balls, etc. Excellent beer menu as well.

Staying on the Rue Leopold and nearly all the local restaurants were closed - it was Sunday - so walked up to Naamsepoort and found this little gem. The place was very busy, full of locals which is always a good sign, and found a table upstairs with a view from the balcony over the ground floor. Initially the service... More

A very typical French/Belgian brasserie. Not to everyone’s liking, but it is true to what it claims to be. The service is fabulous if you know how to engage a middle-aged French man waiting tables—try to have a bit of fun, speak some French or profess a desire to lean, and don’t expect to sit down, eat, and leave in... I keep coming back to Le Trappiste for several reasons : - it serves good beers and traditional Belgian dishes (try the Carbonnade, for instance) - the staff are highly efficient and very pleasant - it is comfortable, without being pompous - it is a place where regulars go - it is a good bit of genuine Brussels This is... Ate with work colleague and enjoyed moule with chips and a glass of lager. Rather hurried staff and tricky to get the bill however food was reasonable. 40euro for two so probabaly not bad for Eurocrats.

Saw some good reviews on TA for this place, and it was not far from our hotel, but we were really disappointing. Aside from the frozen chips and not very inspiring menu, I knocked over a glass on our table... embarrassing, but it happens! Unfortunately the waiter made a huge grumpy fuss and made me feel very unwelcome. Not one... More

Cool place to go and grab a beer, or even eat something. Full of people, Nice waiters, very quick service. We had an exquisite vegetarian mixed dish and a salmon with bernaise sauce. Everything tasty and we were able to eat in one hour without saying the waiter we were in hurry!! The cherry in the cake: I left something... More
