The food and wine was first class, as expected, however the view of the Barossa valley from the restaurant is amazing. Be sure to get there at sunset to enjoy a drink and the view.

My husband and I had the most amazing meal at Appellation. We arrived early and had drinks on the outdoor under cover area, seated in comfortable lounges and had the most magnificent view over the surrounding vineyards and hills as the sun set. We went inside and ordered our meal and the ambience and decor is so very comfortable and... More

Had the degustation, or the tasting menu with matching wines. Fantastic all round. Kind of wish we had tried to pick our own dishes as I was so tired after a day of wine tasting that I was kind of falling asleep by the time the mains came around!

After reading and hearing so many positive things our night was a a huge disappointment. The poor chef was let down horribly by his wait staff. Matched wines, chosen well by the sommelier, were served 10-15 minutes prior to the meal coming out. Staff were well trained but clearly lacked experience. So much potential to be the Royal Mail Hotel... More

We stayed at the Louise for three nights and were able to eat Appellation our first night. It is a small, quaint sitting room that lends itself to the romantic. The meal is never rushed and served in meticulous order. The service was 5 star with great attention to our needs and changes. We are a little eccentric and like... More

The type of accommodation at The Louise deserves a 5 star restaurant. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The Appellation is pleasant enough. The food is quality but not outstanding - perhaps too influenced by a perceived need to be a hotel eating experience rather than a quality one. All dishes used top quality ingredients, they were well prepared and... More

Why this restaurant has the reputation it does escapes me! The prices are bizarre, the petite portions hard to believe, the wine list extensive but most well up in the hundreds of dollars per bottle. Would not return! It is rated #1 of 1 in this town. If there were ten restaurants here, I would rate it closer to ten... More

Superb service, one of the few places that uphold their level of service throughout the meal, often service starts to slip after mains but not here. Delicious food, lovely setting. Hope to return one day.

We were here for an interstate weekend away and were very impressed with the quality of the wine and wagu marble score 9+ beef. Seriously was the best steak we have ever had in our lives, it was perfectly seared and just melted in your mouth. Loved the country scenic drive to the restaurant too and it is just the... More

I thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu and paired wines. They were all delicious and the only fault is that I thought the first 2 courses could have been a little bigger. We were full by the end though. The dishes showed off some lovely produce and were very wholesome. The service is very friendly, and the pacing was very comfortable.... More
