Seafood Lover's Dream

We have gone here many times over the past few years and enjoy the variety (I love seafood, my son loves the chowder and the other two aren't big fish fans) The take out option is super convenient! Desserts are always lovely and the staff are just as sweet.

Stumbled upon Chowder House in Neil's Harbor for lunch and was immediately enthralled by the location; perched on a cliff right on the ocean! It was gorgeous. We sat in the screened patio area which was no frills but nice. Our server could not have been more prompt and sweet. I had the clam strips w/ fries and my significant... More

We had a late lunch here after a long hike. Nice ocean views. Standard chowderhouse/seafood type menu, prices in line with those in the area. Service was a little slow and capable if not enthusiastic. I had the fish burger and thought the fish portion was small and the food greasy. I also had the caesar which was heavily dressed... More

We happened on this hidden gem while doing the Cabot Trail and it's perfectly positioned for that, at the top of the trail! It's probably one of the only places still open at least when we went there late in Sept. Just follow the signs to the edge of the water and it lives up to its name - I... More

My husband enjoyed the snow crab and corn chowder. He said it was flavourful and full of crab. The lobster roll was his second favourite of the many he sampled on this trip. I had the haddock and chips. The fish was very tasty and I enjoyed every bite. I wish the weather was a bit warmer so we could... More

I took some girlfriends to The Chowder House after a hike and was very disappointed with both the seafood chowder and the crab -corn chowder. The seafood chowder was thick and rather tasteless. A chowder house should have chowder that people can rave about and with little effort it could be improved. It was a little embarrassing to say the... More

Don't be put off by the weathered look of the building. Go inside and prepare yourself for a very relaxed atmosphere, informal service, and good food. Our waitress had worked at the Chowder House for over a decade - yet she was friendly, helpful, and willing to share conversation with us about the food, the place, and the history. We... More

We stopped here with expectations of a great bowl of seafood chowder given their name and their prime location in a fishing community. It was so disappointing. . . Too thick, too little seafood, too little flavour.

The hours from noon to 7pm are short. The fresh fish was good. Servers were impatient and didn't always return with what was asked for e.g. water. Lovely location
