Birthday food

Really really enjoyed it. Service was excellent and food was totally superb. There is an a la carte menu and deals such as 3 courses for £27.50 and 2 courses for £23. I had the northumbrian ryebye. Totally gorgeous. The pudding I had rich chocolate brownie. It was to die for. A member of my party... read more

Contrary to the reviews I read from trip advisor our Sunday lunch was awful. The lunch was a Carvery. The choice of meat was Topside of beef which is one of the cheapest cuts and I dislike. The other gammon and the worst was the shoulder of lamb another cheap cut which I hoped would be slow cooked and tender... More

Breakfast was wonderful - English breakfast in a sunroom overlooking a beautiful garden. Quick service - can order and choose items from cold bar.

Had a deal through Secret Escapes . Exceptional value. We had the 8 course taster menu included . Each course was delicious and showed of perfectly the food of the region and the merits of the hotels fruit and veg gardens. Our twin room was so comfortable and spotless. Excellent base for exploring gorgeous villages and Hadrians wall. Shall definately... More

Bought one of this lovely pub's vouchers for 2 three course Sunday lunches for £29.00. It was outstanding value. Husband had smoked duck salad and I had crayfish cocktail to start, we then both had a carvery lunch and mixed berry pavlova for pudding. Everything was tasty and fresh and the carvery portions were generous. Plenty of vegetables to choose... More

We had a table in the conservatory which was bright and light. The 8 course taster menu was great. We didn't feel overstuffed at the end as we were able to eat over a period of time.

We stayed at Battlesteads in Wark on our 2008 trip and made appoint of returning to the inn on our 2013 visit. Very pleasant, convenient to several historic sites. The dining room was excellent with fine service. Battlesteads in a fixture for our next trip.

A super lunch well executed and with good puddings. A little bit tired in surroundings but allowed dogs and was clean. Sadly they didnt water the hanging baskets so very sad to see lovely plants dying. The staff were very pleasant particularly the young man from Alicante in Spain
