Excellent niche restaurant

I visited The Battlesteads having seen it on a number of websites and thought it was interesting. The one disappointment was that our booking seemed to have got lost, but we were lucky enough to get in having arrived reasonably early. My companion and I ordered from the main menu, because as a... read more

Stayed here for 2 nights on the secret escapes deal which was good value, however, the front of house does need attention as it was far from welcoming. The manageress was clearly having a bad day and lacked any people skills, to the extent that if we hadn't pre booked we would have gone elsewhere- perhaps she lacks self awareness.... More

So- Gail and were at the Bellingham show and as we were heading home we thought we would try lunch at Battlesteads Hotel- now the last time I came here it was a country pub with all the usual country pub food and look. It has now changed big style- it is now a Hotel that promotes good food and... More

We chose to eat here as we heard the food was good, I can only imagine it is good for the area and there is nowhere else to go as it is not of the quality that we are used to enjoying. This restaurant is trying too hard to be something it is not, the classic case of menu trying... More

after reading great reviews we decided to try this restaurant for sunday lunch. We had the carvery which was excellent, we had a choice of meats with two joints of beef cooked rare or well done. The vegetables were extremely fresh and cooked to perfection. The service was good and all staff were helpful and polite. We will certainly be... More

There is a good varied menu in both the bar and restaurant and the prices are reasonable. We've eaten here before and have been very satisfied. On the last occasion the bar was cold but the food was piping hot.

I've stopped here a couple of times with years between the stays and both times have been great. Food is excellent, bar staff know about the ales they serve and can offer you a valid opinion. The room we stayed in was lovely and clean with some homemade biscuits to dunk in your cuppa. Great place to stay to get... More

Contrary to the reviews I read from trip advisor our Sunday lunch was awful. The lunch was a Carvery. The choice of meat was Topside of beef which is one of the cheapest cuts and I dislike. The other gammon and the worst was the shoulder of lamb another cheap cut which I hoped would be slow cooked and tender... More

Really really enjoyed it. Service was excellent and food was totally superb. There is an a la carte menu and deals such as 3 courses for £27.50 and 2 courses for £23. I had the northumbrian ryebye. Totally gorgeous. The pudding I had rich chocolate brownie. It was to die for. A member of my party had Champaign jelly and... More

Breakfast was wonderful - English breakfast in a sunroom overlooking a beautiful garden. Quick service - can order and choose items from cold bar.
