After spending some time walking alongside Hadrian's Wall, we pulled up outside Battlesteads at 3.15pm to see the chalkboard outside saying Sunday roast served 12 - 3pm... Tentatively we went in and asked if they would still serve us. Thankfully we received a warm reception and told that as long as we were happy with what was left in the... More

Great food, great environment, friendly and helpful staff. Super desserts from Dee. Everything on the menu looked good. Breakfast was excellent.

We only came for lunch and really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of sitting in the conservatory in the sun. The service was not the quickest but the food was excellent and well worth the wait and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and left you alone to enjoy your meal which I prefer. I would look at this hotel if... More

On a family visit we were discussing the menu when the chef suggested trying a 'taster' menu of dishes they were developing for the season. It turned out to be an amazing 7 - course meal of exceptional standard including cinnamon pulled-pork, sea bass, slow cooked cow's cheek in a rich jus, homemade desserts and a genuinely local cheeseboard. Presentation... More

I have had lunch here twice with my husband and family and thought it was delightful. Sat in the conservatory looking out at the garden and had very good food both times. The waitresses were friendly and helpful - Reluca, Gina and I'm afraid I don't know the other one's name but they are a credit to the hotel. We had... More

Enjoyed a special meal here with my family whilst on a camping holiday, very attentive staff and good food something a bit special. Only gripe I have is that they charge for tap water, the waitress brought a bottle to our table without us ordering it and later found we had been charged, not a huge amount but still it... More

It was a real pleasure to eat here. The food is excellent and good value for money. I would not hesitate to recommend it. Its much more than a pub, the food is of the highest quality, the beer is good and the service is excellent.

We decided to go to this pub after reading the impressive menu on their website. Unfortunately most of the food on the menu was not actually available on the day. Most of the vegetarian options which was in fact the reason we chose this place were not available. The one which was available was sad to say the least :... More

Because of a voucher I had won for two to enjoy the carvery Sunday lunch, two friends and I came to the Battlesteads today. We were very impressed by the quality of the choices in the menu, the ambience, the quiet, polite and friendly efficiency of the staff. There was a choice of rare or well done beef, pork or... More
