Great tasting menu.

We had the tasting menu and added the wine flight. The food was interesting and delicious. The wine waiter was knowledgable and friendly. Breakfast was better the second day when we had the omelette, very tasty although slightly lacking in seasoning as were the scrambled eggs on the first day... read more

Warm welcome from the barman who listed all the various wines available upon me asking for a glass. Given a complimentary small cup of soup which was nice. I had fish and chips; the portion size was small and looked unappealing with mushy peas which looked like they were from a tin. The fish batter was soggy throughout and the... More

The initial impression is compromised by a huge moveable bank of solar panels mounted rather like a massive satellite dish and it does not get much better on entry to the restaurant which is in need of updating. The food was average and although the service was friendly and helpful we would not return.

A lovely place to visit following a walk along the river. Time your visit to coincide with the bluebells season and your visit will be even more memorable. Great food, sitting in the conservatory watching the many birds attracted to the bird feeders in the garden.

After being reccommended this pub by the owners of where we were staying, we arrived around 6pm after a day out on Hadrians Wall. Had to wait ten minutes whilst at the bar with one barman, talking at length to another couple about gin...it was the man of the couple who suggested to the barman to serve us rather than... More

Booked at just an hour's notice, Sunday lunch for 5 at Battlesteads proved to be an excellent choice. We all opted for the carvery menu and were rewarded with a tasty well-presented choice of roasts - with all the trimmings. A warm and friendly welcome, with attentive and efficient service. And the four - legged member of our party was... More

Very disappointed with our lunchtime experience for four people. Ordered 4 starters and 2 mains with the request to hold 2 starters until the mains were served, but that didn't happen thankfully they were cold starters so not a major problem. The mains were then served but we were halfway through before the sauces, drinks and water finally arrived after... More

We found this restaurant soon after moving to the area, and have gone several times for a range of meals including Sunday lunch and a special tasting menu. These were all good quality, with attentive and knowledgeable staff. It was therefore a disappointment to go there this week and find it so ordinary. The menu itself was so-so, with some... More
