Classy country character hostelry that serves great food!

We have dined here in the past, but hadn't appreciated just how nice the Marquis is until our visit for Sunday lunch today. A terrific pub in a stunning Rutland village. The food is exceptional. I could eat almost everything on menu! But, it is a shame how the layout in the main restaurant feels like a school dinning room. It definitely lacks character compared for instance with the Fox and Hounds in Knossington which is where Brian who owns the restaurant came from initially. It would be nice if it... More

Went for lunch on Saturday, booked a table as it has such a good reputation. There was a wedding on but this did not affect how we were served. The staff were very very friendly, bar man was very chatty and welcoming, we were served quickly. The food was excellent, I had the chicken and pesto and the chicken could... More

We came to stay overnight and had a meal in the restaurant . I had whitebait which was decilicous followed by a cheese and spinach tart . It was simply cooked to perfection the pastry was crispy and the flavours melted in your mouth . Jo and Ewan who served us couldn't be more helpful and welcoming. The room was... More

I've been here multiple times with friends and family and always have a great meal. Lovely wine, lovely service and the waiters are always really helpful with my gluten intolerance! This makes a big difference when deciding where to eat out. Would recommend to everyone! Definitely the best place to eat in rutland!

We have been here several times and have always been impressed by the quality of the food. However, the last two times the service was less than acceptable. The last time was Mother's Day when my children took my wife there for Sundy lunch. The food was delicous (and it unusually managed to beat my two very hungry children!) and... More

If your idea of a great pub dining experience is an old pub with character, log fire, friendly staff and great food then The Marquis of Exeter is it. Brian Baker shows the rest of Rutland how it should be done. We have eaten here in many occasions with local friends and never been let down. Brian's personal attention to... More

This restaurant serves first class food. We went last nigh for a meal and it was delicious. The starters were very tasty, I had the salmon, which was not the bog standard one you normally get but a very nice piece of fresh salmon quickly warmed up and having it warm brought all the taste out. It was served on... More

Having visited the beautiful village of Lyddington and the White Hart on many occasions we decided to visit the Marquis for a change. Having both worked in the Hospitality industry for many years we know the importance of customer service, clearly the barman here does not. Sarcastic, rude and full of his own importance we certainly will not be returning... More
