A hidden gem

This restaurant was a relegation as it offered a good choice of meals all seemingly cooked to a very high standard at affordable prices . The dinning room was spacious so good for those with a tendency to claustrophobia . The service was timely and professional . The wine list matched the menu with... read more

This restaurant was a relegation as it offered a good choice of meals all seemingly cooked to a very high standard at affordable prices . The dinning room was spacious so good for those with a tendency to claustrophobia . The service was timely and professional . The wine list matched the menu with costs that were not prohibitive. We rang up at the very last minute to book Sunday lunch and to our surprise we were able to be served. We arrived to find the restaurant almost empty, only three tables occupied. We could not believe it as we had the most lovely lunch with excellent service. We had a large table, meant for four but it was... More

The food here is mediocre and expensive. I have eaten decent pub grub at marginally more than half the prices they charge. The note on the menu that you will have to wait 25 minutes for a main course was surprising for a Sunday roast but proved to be accurate. I was in a party who ate the Sunday lunch.... More

We have dined here in the past, but hadn't appreciated just how nice the Marquis is until our visit for Sunday lunch today. A terrific pub in a stunning Rutland village. The pub oozes character and atmosphere. Flagstone floors, open fires and chunky leather sofas. There is areal feeling of affluence in this area and the punters are not your... More

The food is exceptional. I could eat almost everything on menu! But, it is a shame how the layout in the main restaurant feels like a school dinning room. It definitely lacks character compared for instance with the Fox and Hounds in Knossington which is where Brian who owns the restaurant came from initially. It would be nice if it... More

Went for lunch on Saturday, booked a table as it has such a good reputation. There was a wedding on but this did not affect how we were served. The staff were very very friendly, bar man was very chatty and welcoming, we were served quickly. The food was excellent, I had the chicken and pesto and the chicken could... More

We came to stay overnight and had a meal in the restaurant . I had whitebait which was decilicous followed by a cheese and spinach tart . It was simply cooked to perfection the pastry was crispy and the flavours melted in your mouth . Jo and Ewan who served us couldn't be more helpful and welcoming. The room was... More

I've been here multiple times with friends and family and always have a great meal. Lovely wine, lovely service and the waiters are always really helpful with my gluten intolerance! This makes a big difference when deciding where to eat out. Would recommend to everyone! Definitely the best place to eat in rutland!

We have been here several times and have always been impressed by the quality of the food. However, the last two times the service was less than acceptable. The last time was Mother's Day when my children took my wife there for Sundy lunch. The food was delicous (and it unusually managed to beat my two very hungry children!) and... More
