Excellent Eatery

Met with wedding party the day after. Originally lunch had been booked for 9 but numbers extended to 20 and the landlord didn't flinch..despite obviously being very busy. Disappointed with our first visit. Food very good but let down by poor service from uninspired staff. This was my aunties birthday and we were a family party but everyone commented on the lack of interest or communication from the men serving. Unfortunately they failed to make it a cheerful experience and let down the very good food produced in... More

This is a local eating out place for us. The food is always good, but seems to have lost its "wow" factor. The last visit, well the food was good, however the manager who served us was surly and distinctly unfriendly. This made the evening uncomfortable. One of the orders was slightly wrong which we mentioned to him, the response... More

Sunday lunch menu much more imaginative than most restaurants-with-rooms. Attentive friendly staff, attractive setting. Dressed crab excellent with lovely warm new potato salad; roast beef with all the trimmings pink and tasty.

Impeccable service. Just the right amount of time between courses. I had the tandoori tuna, beautifully presented and spiced to perfection. The menu isn't huge which means they do everything well, and there's something on there to suit all tastes. We had the summer pudding for dessert and my only criticism was too much pudding and too little vanilla cream.... More

This restaurant was a relegation as it offered a good choice of meals all seemingly cooked to a very high standard at affordable prices . The dinning room was spacious so good for those with a tendency to claustrophobia . The service was timely and professional . The wine list matched the menu with costs that were not prohibitive. The... More

We rang up at the very last minute to book Sunday lunch and to our surprise we were able to be served. We arrived to find the restaurant almost empty, only three tables occupied. We could not believe it as we had the most lovely lunch with excellent service. We had a large table, meant for four but it was... More

The food here is mediocre and expensive. I have eaten decent pub grub at marginally more than half the prices they charge. The note on the menu that you will have to wait 25 minutes for a main course was surprising for a Sunday roast but proved to be accurate. I was in a party who ate the Sunday lunch.... More

We have dined here in the past, but hadn't appreciated just how nice the Marquis is until our visit for Sunday lunch today. A terrific pub in a stunning Rutland village. The pub oozes character and atmosphere. Flagstone floors, open fires and chunky leather sofas. There is areal feeling of affluence in this area and the punters are not your... More
