My husband and myself were staying locally for just one evening and made a restaurant booking. We found the service and meal to be amongst our prime favourites of all time. We both altered the menu request slightly, to suit our individual personal preferences and there was a professional 'can do' attitude, which was pleasing. We wished we lived nearer... More

The Marquis of Exeter is has so much going for it but let's it self down with the small things. Our food couldn't be faulted. Our starters " the Squid & the Chicken Parfait" were the nicest we've had anywhere and for the main we shared the Moroccan Lamb cooked to the Chefs recommendation. Again beautiful. The meal costs were... More

What a beautiful pub! Although the pub was very very busy the food was excellent and the staff were brilliant. We hadn't booked and although initially we were told that they were fully booked, the lovely lady told is that if we had a drink she would find us a table. This she did and the food was definitely worth... More

Starters were very tasty. I couldn't fault the Sunday lunch today. The beef was superb as was the Yorkshire pudding. Staff were excellent even though the restaurant was pretty busy. It is probably a bit more expensive than some other pubs, however that is reflected in the quality of the food.

I can't say enough good things about this place I booked in advance and from the very First instance I spoke them, it was profeshanel- so refreshing. When we arrived we had a blazing fire to greet us and a smiling face behind the bar from a charming lady, we had a drink, had our order taken before being taken... More

We booked on the day, for a late lunch (2.00pm), having been enticed by the sample menu on the website. A slightly odd pub in that it has a modern dining room extension with a low ceiling, but well furnished and a pleasant enough place to eat. The mushroom soup starter was strongly and excellently flavoured, the beef casserole was... More

We found the food to be very good, however the establishment lets itself down by the front of house staff. We found them to be rude, arrogant and obnoxious and we were made to feel as if we were inconveniencing them. We watched as the more regular customers arrived for their pre-booked lunches, and it was then obvious who was... More

Nice welcome, order taken efficiently, table fine, were not asked if we wanted to order sweets, had to stop a waiter to ask to order coffee, had to ask for the bill. What a shame. After the main course we felt ignored. Food fine but expensive for lunch. Nice place though. Not sure if we will return. Generally disappointed. Needs... More

This is the second time I have been within the space of a week, once for lunch and once for dinner. Brian and his wonderful team were superb again. The food was excellent, the service attentive but not overbearing. I love the menu, it's not vast so consequently everything is beautifully done. Looking forward to my next visit!

We had a party of seven at Sunday lunch today and we were all impressed with the quality of the food and the service. The restaurant was really busy but we were served quickly and efficiently. The roast beef was perfectly cooked with impressive portions.
