The Marquess of Exeter comes highly recommended so we had high hopes but were left unimpressed. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy but they appeared under-staffed which resulted in distinctly average service. Our waiter (Joe I think) was a real character and had a friendly helpful manner. Unfortunately he appeared to be the only one serving in the restaurant, resulting in... More

Stopped to have lunch here which we both enjoyed. Lunch time special was good value at around £12.50 per head for two courses. I had the fish and chips which was very nice though would have preferred chunky chips rather than fries but the fish was just perfect. My wife had the tuna steak which was gorgeous and well portioned.... More

We booked this restaurant for a long needed get together with friends that we hadn't seen for ages. Looking at the website, I remembered the chef from the Fox and Hound in Knossington so was excited that we had found what i believed to be the ideal place for this special occasion. On arrival we were greeted by Brian the... More

Second time we have stayed at this hotel and have been disappointed both times on the quality of the food. Desert was so bad we attempted to send it back and were confronted by the rudest most bad tempered chef I have ever encountered who insisted that we pay for the desert despite it being described by fellow diner as... We were looking for a quiet pub meal and found this place ideal. The service was very attentive and the food was delightful and well priced. I was particularly pleased that the dining room was not over-crowded with tables and that there was no background music playing so you could hold a conversation over your meal and not have to... This review relates to a visit in April 2013. I've known this pub/restaurant for over 30 years and it has always been well above the average in most respects. Imagine then my anticipation at a return visit to find it even better than before. I took my wife, two sons and mother-in-law and the staff were not only friendly but,... More

Came here for a snack pub lunch after a lovely scenic walk with rolling hills, reservoir and beautiful views. Pleasantly surprised by a great sandwich menu - had the home cured pastrami on sourdough. Perfectly delicious. Great beers too. Will come back to try the restaurant, but can highly recommend the pub, service and food.

This place is a gem! A gastro pub/hotel. The food was fabulous the rooms delightful and all the staff were very friendly efficient and Proffessional. It's tucked away in a small village and I can highly recommend it. From this country retreat we visited Ely Cathedral, Rutland water, Stamford, Rockingham castle and on the way home Cambridge and had a... More

Booked here for Sunday lunch with brother and sister-in-law having seen good reviews. Must say that we were left unimpressed by our experience. The restaurant was not busy but there appeared to be a wedding reception in another area so waiting staff seemed to be distracted. The result was that we didnt get the service that we felt we needed... More
