Description: 'Selene' restaurant was established in 1986 in Fira, Santorini by Yiorgos and Evelyn Hatziyannakis. Our aim was from the very start, to show and promote the local products along with the local cuisine hoping that this will enable us to transmit to our guests a taste of the island's culture. The success that we have had all those years not only within Greece but also worldwide, has encouraged us to continue with cooking lessons, catering for weddings and conferences and various gastronomical events. Since 2010 'Selene' restaurant has moved location from Fira to Pyrgos. Pyrgos is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved villages of Santorini built around a medieval castle located in one of the highest points of the island offering magnificent views. What is mostly important for us however is that Pyrgos village, and the restaurant's location especially, lies next to the famous vineyards and the valuable farmland of Santorini.

We had a great time at Selene. The staff was attentive and genuinely happy to serve us. The food was masterful: it was a great demonstration of what can be done with local produce. The cod main course (July 2014) I had was on par if not better than similar dishes I had in 1,2 and 3 Michelin star restaurants... More

Located five minutes walk from the central square in Pyrgos, this is a review of the restaurant, not the taverna, which is just below this establishment. The location is lovely, and the staff are attentive, knowledgeable and prompt. The area close to the edge of the terrace can get surprisingly gusty after sundown, all worth taking into account when choosing... More

In all fairness, we came with the expectations of having one of the best meals in the world. It was nowhere near. Service was lacking, food was far too pretentious and lacking and real character, and the selections were mediocre at best. The "view" was certainly not worth our 60 EUR taxi fare there and back. We arrived and were... More

This is one of those difficult to rate experiences as the food was excellent - probably the most refined and interesting of our whole trip - but our main waiter was so unfriendly that it almost spolt the experience. Not only did he not smile but he was almost rude in terms of making us feel like we were an imposition.... We were really looking forward to eating here based on all the glowing reviews. So disappointing. The first appetizer was an eggplant dish described as being sprinkled with "smoked eel dust". I swear this dish presented to us as a blackened blob of burned eggplant and tasted like it had volcanic dust poured onto it. The next appetizer clams terrin... More

Consider the best restaurant in Santorini, or better yet, in Greece, it was our topmost priority to pay a visit. Marvelously delicious meal. It was simpler in a way they use ingredients, but thoughtful with layers of different texture and flavour. The chefs played with contrast and texture. It was art on the plates but when it touched your lips... More

I went here with a few friends after a top notch dining experience in Athens led us here when we meet the chef. He recommended Selene after we asked where to go in Santorini. No doubt the views were as spectacular as he promised and the presentation of the dishes was immaculate. I even spotted one of the chefs painstakingly... More

This restaurant attempts to create a fine dining experience. However, it falls short. The dining room itself is nice and the service attentive. The cuisine is, however, somewhat disappointing. Further, we had to wait over 45 minutes between our starters and main courses (and the restaurant, which has a limited number of covers, was not even full), a wait made... More

We arrived 15" late and tried to find our way and very glad we still have our table. Staff = Very helpful staffs and full of knowledge on their menu, wine selection and cheese selection. Cost = Value for money. 2 starters, 2 main courses, 2 desserts, 2 coffees and 3 glasses of red which cost us € 160++ Quality... More

We picked this restaurant after exhaustive research. It is not just one of the best restaurants in Santorini, it is one of the best in Greece. We agree with that designation. We shared the langoustine starter and it was very good. My rooster, however, was incredible. The blend of sauces combined with fantastic presentation really came together to make this... More
