A really nice intimate restaurant that serves good food and has a good wine selection. Obviously not cheap but well worth the money. Went on a Sunday at lunchtime so the menu was cut down a bit. Still plenty to choose from. Served well and friendly staff. Would like to go back for an evening when next in the area.

Although the food was superb, there was no background music, so the restaurant lacked any atmosphere.

Having lived in Suffolk for 20+ years and eat out regularly we have missed going north of the A14 and hence not visited Thoballds. Don't make that mistake - go north and see what you can get from this gem of a restaurant. Turbot A1 with just the correct balance of tasty risotto, local steak with a delightful well constituted... This little gem of a restaurant has been in business since 1982 and is run beautifully by the husband and wife owners after whom it is named. It is several years since our last visit and I think our first in the summer months. The whole experience was joyous and deserved to be shared by more diners. It was a... More

Very nice meal, all courses were very good, and the service was excellent. They have a hidden gem at the back, so if the weather is warm, ask to sit outside before your meal.

We went for dinner last Friday evening, we live near-bye, but for some reason, we haven't been here for 10 years or so. We had starters, mains and desserts.. The twice baked cheese soufflé was historic and we loved presentation and taste of the main course and the taste and range of potatoes and vegetables. Without question, the best restaurant... More

Please God, not too many people will learn about this local secret. Part of its charm is that it never seems too busy, probably due to meticulous planning of 'table letting' by the management. The result is that the floor staff never seem to be under too much pressure and I presume that this is also true of the kitchen.... More

Great place to eat full of charm. Good food, slightly old fashioned setting but doesn't pretend to be something it's not. Well worth a visit

I was taken to Theobald's by a friend and his Son (they live close by and are regulars) and I was blown away, loved everything about it. Theobalds would be a gem in Mayfair, never mind Ixworth. Everything about the restaurant screams quality. Every single part of every dish is both locally sourced and prepared in the restaurant kitchen including... More

We visited for the first time last Friday evening. My sister-in-law has always rated Theobalds and so she wanted to treat us for a special occasion. We were not disappointed. The staff were lovely, very friendly, made us feel really welcome. The food was delicious, my husband had the cheese souffle for starter which was fabulous, my monkfish main was... More
