This unique 17th century Inn houses a wonderful British restaurant and pub. You'll find it at the heart of the delightful Sussex village of Burpham, just 4 km from historic Arundel, surrounded by the glorious South Downs National Park. The menus are classic “best of British” food with a modern twist. Everything is home cooked with the freshest seasonal ingredients, locally sourced where possible. That means the specials menu changes all the time, so your tastebuds will always be delighted. Open for lunch 12-2 or 12-3 weekends, and from 6pm for dinner. Great wine menu and local Real Ale. This is a very family friendly place; well-behaved dogs are welcome to sit under the table in the pub area whilst you dine. Groups, weddings and private parties love it here and come back year after year. Bookings are recommended especially for Sunday lunch as it's always very busy.

My friend and I visited The George recently as we had heard it was a nice pub, and had recently been refurbished so thought we would see what it was like. On arrival, we were told by a staff member that she would be with us shortly. We were left waiting in the entrance for around 10 minutes whilst numerous... More

I was extremely disappointed to have received your review, especially seeing as it's your first ever. It's not clear weather you were coming for drinks or food, but as we are a busy rural pub we do have to shut the kitchen (at 3pm) in order to prepare our food for the evening service, but would have wanted you to... Have visited this pub for many years and quality has gone up and down depending on the owners. Now locally owned, the latest 'revamp' works (mostly). Please get rid of the fake book wallpaper in the back area - totally out of context! Food was really excellent and service very friendly. Still a great place to go if you are... More

A friend recommended this pub which is in the very picturesque village of Burpham. It is off the beaten track but we were pleased that we had booked a table as it was still quite busy (Tuesday lunchtime). The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. We wanted only a snack so we both chose just starters - prawn cocktail and... More

My wife and I visited the George as a result of the reviews on here. We were not disappointed. The burgers are indeed better than any we have ever eaten. The desserts are delicious and just the right size. There is no sense of hustle and bustle and this is definitely a place for people who are in no hurry.... More

We were staying locally and have known of the George for a number of years. The makeover is very good, however, there were few things that need to be improved before the overall experience makes it good. Primarily the portion sizes need to be made to reflect the prices being charged and this was perfectly demonstrated with the measly cheese... More

We treated guests to Sunday lunch at the George at were not disappointed. We received a warm welcome. The menu choice although small was perfectly balanced, cooked and presented to perfection. The service was attentive without being overbearing we shall certainly return.

Booked here for dinner as recommended by local B&B where we were staying in Warningcamp, really lovely pub, owned & run by locals, very friendly staff, extremely helpful with the menu for my pregnancy dietary requirements, amazing food (can highly recommend the sweet chilli beef starter & burger with choice of toppings for main), lovely cosy atmosphere, would love our... Visited a few times and have always had the burger. A hard place to get to if you want to enjoy a drink (taxi or get a friend to drive). A lovely atmosphere. Heard the old owners have left - ohh I do hope they left the burger recipe! A great pub to dine at for a treat.
