Mid week break

Went here on a recommendation, what can I say WOW from the start of our stay to the end a truly wonderful experience. We went on a deal for a mid week break including a six course taster menu. The bedroom was at the front of the hotel overlooking a small square very quaint, the room was well... read more

This is a lovely restaurant with great quality well cooked food. I'd describe the style as wholesome provincial French. Great quality ingredients, nicely put together in big portions. The dinner started out spectacularly with some wonderful appetisers including pork crackling, that had been ironed flat and served with a mustard sauce. I then had the home made boudin noir to... We had visited Montgomery, which we like very much, and were horrified to learn, from my stepson, that we had missed a Michelin star venue. He had visited and whilst he enjoyed the food he complained about the service. These young kids know nothing!!! Service was friendly and top notch and the food was excellent. Had intended the tasting menu... More

I've eaten here on four occasions. The first of these my wife and I had the tasting menu and had I reviewed this place then I would have given it five stars. Based on my last two visits it's dropped to four stars and is beginning to lose its appeal. The cooking remains accomplished and enjoyable and at these prices... More

Agree with previous reviewer that this place could easily contend for a top place in London as well, but it is a magnificent culinary gem. Tables may be available as walk-ins, which was teh case for us, but bookings advised. Has the Witner Menu, excellent food and service.

We had a truly wonderful evening celebrating my husband's birthday. I was a little concerned that arriving at 6pm it might be somewhat quiet, but it didn't take long for the restaurant to fill up. We all had the tasting menu, with a couple of additional surprises, all exquisitely presented. All the dishes were absolutely delicious, no skimping on portion... More

We were lucky enough to get a few nights away to celebrate our Anniversary & so booked a table at The Checkers. We had ordered a taxi from the cottage we were staying at (which was in the middle of nowhere) in advance but to cut a long story short it didn't turn up! The staff at The Checkers were... More

Holidaying in the area, my wife and I treated ourselves to dinner at the Checkers. It was a tuesday and although the restaurant is in a small, rather remote town, it was full - which speaks volumes. There is a comfortable bar/lounge area where you can view the menu and have coffee later and the food is exquisite - surely... More

For my birthday my husband always tries to extend our experiences of Michelin starred restaurants in the UK. This year he booked The Checkers for dinner and an overnight stay. We found a gem in so many ways. The team are wonderful, a front of house team who clearly enjoy what they do and want you to share in this... More

My wife and I have just enjoyed an excellent lunch at The Checkers in celebration of our wedding anniversary. We have eaten there several times over recent years and it is always such a pleasurable experience. Delicious food, superb wine, a great ambience and customer service par excellence. All delivered by the Frenchman and the Farmer's Daughters and their team.... More
