Stayed here for one night and dined with a couple and a colleague, the experience was memorable, in a good way, from the booking of the room/table to the final goodbye. The food, well I have booked to take my wife for her 50th birthday, and its two hours away, that about says it all. The menu is limited, however... More

The logo for this restaurant with rooms is "The Frenchman and the two Farmers Daughters". I'd read that Checkers had been Michelin starred within a year of opening, but unfortunately had been unable to fit in a visit until a week ago, when we took some very close friends and stayed overnight. Montgomery is a lovely old Welsh town/village, with... More

Montgomery is not the easiest place to get to, and, there is no doubt in my mind that this restaurant would have a star if it was in England, and already deserves one compared with others in Wales...maybe Michelin also find it difficult to find! We ate there at a family reunion of 4 siblings. All parts of the dinner... More

From the minute we arrived at this beautiful and tastefully decorated place, we sensed that we would not be disappointed. It is well-deserving of its Michelin star - the attention to detail was amazing . Having started with the most delicious appetisers and Pimms, we went on to further delights from a very interesting menu -each dish was beautifully executed.... More

We've eaten here before and have always been impressed - this time we decided to try the tasting menu (7 courses) and we were very glad we did. It was heavenly - everything was presented beautifully with such attention to detail. Every course tasted fabulous. 7 courses sounds a lot but each one was perfectly balanced so that we still... My hubby and I recently dined here for a treat whilst he was home on leave. The restaurant is small, intimate and beautifully decorated making you feel relaxed. We had a warm welcome and were invited to sit in a small drawing room to enjoy a drink and canapés whilst we looked at the menu. The canapés were to die... More

Our son and daughter bought us a voucher for a weekend at this hotel. We had a brilliant time. The food was wonderful. I tried to describe to my family and friends when we returned what made the food and experience so special. In the end I could only sum it up as each dish that was served - whatever... More

We were really looking forward to this meal but found it slightly less brilliant than expected. In particular we were disappointed in the handling of the wine. Should have been decanted. Saw the same at another table. Food good but portions on the heavy side. Service was reasonable but not wonderful.

The Checkers is quite simply the best restaurant I have ever eaten at. The food, service, setting and attention to detail are all nothing short of impeccable and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anybody. My wife and I visited in May 2014 and (restraining ourselves in face of the temptation of the taster menu) enjoyed a lovely... More

For my birthday my wife bought me a gift voucher for a Masterchef Class. I chose the French Classics as my treat, and what a treat it was! Chef Stephane showed us the correct way to joint a chicken and then proceeded to demonstrate how to cook a classic Chicken Chasseur. Then Katherine showed us how to make Millefeuille with... More
