Lakes is the restaurant of Hempstead House, a small family-owned country house hotel between Sittingbourne and Faversham in the glorious Kent countryside. It dates back to 1850 but Lakes restaurant was added in 1998, quickly winning awards from the AA, the RAC and the English Tourist Board. Its crystal chandeliers, fine china and cut glass provide an elegant backdrop to chef Matthew Levetts accomplished interpretation of classical English and French dishes: fresh fish and meat is locally-sourced and fruit and veg come down from Covent Garden each day. My husband and I visited the restaurant at Hempstead House, along with my parents, to celebrate our 1st Wedding Anniversary and their 55th anniversary. When we arrived, we were seated in a small sitting room to browse the menu and order our drinks. When they took us through to the main restaurant they had very kindly decorated our table, as... Lovely setting and great service. Excellent starter. Sirloin steak for main was cooked well but was very fatty. Dessert was excellent. Petit fours were very disappointing as they were heavy and claggy. Overall a very nice evening.

This was a great night out , I have not eaten here since 2001 as one of my friends put me off saying it lacks atmosphere ......... I must say far from it , it was a full house on Thursday evening fantastic service through out the evening and the meal 3 courses for £30 was fabulous , I have... More

Had a family lunch here today to celebrate my birthday tomorrow. It's a lovely setting beautiful hotel, great service with a touch of charm that I really enjoyed. We really enjoyed the menu and the portion sizes were just right, not too much and not too small. We all came away having enjoyed it and thinking it must look amazing... More

Great selection on the menu. Starters and puds were particularly appealing. My scallop starter was very good - scallops cooked well. Chocolate fondant was divine - perfectly cooked and beautifully rich. However, my main course was a let down. My requested medium rare steak was verging on well done. It's a shame something so simple was done badly. Would have... More

My Wife was treated to afternoon tea here for her Birthday and had a nice relaxing and peaceful afternoon in wonderful surroundings. The scones were lovely and the service was excellent. She enjoyed it so much that she has asked me to take her back for an evening meal!

Went today for an afternoon tea and I will definitely be going back. We had our own private room which was lovely & the manager who introduced himself was very friendly and kept making sure we was okay throughout our stay. I would definitely recommend having afternoon tea here, the food was delicious and there was plenty of drinks to... More

We visited Lakes Restaurant as a family to celebrate the occasion of Mum's 70th birthday. Michael and his team did everything possible to make our event very special including making extra room to accomodate a large birthday cake, decorating the table with birthday confetti and decorating the birthday girl's dessert plate with a chocolate inscribed 'happy birthday'. They even willingly... More

I wanted to take this opportunity to say how very happy our cover of 8 people experienced a beautiful time at Hempstead House on Sunday 19th July 2015 for a 70th birthday lunch. From start to finish the service by Michael and the team of waitresses was faultless. The traditional Sunday Lunch was absolutely 2nd to none, as agreed by... More
