Visited for the 1st time today. Wow the carvery was fabulous all home cooked the roast beef just melts in the mouth. Big selection of veg & as much gravy as you wish. Landlady came across to chat to us, all the staff very friendly & cheerful. Nice cosy atmosphere as well. As we have recently moved to the area... More

As we live in the area we often frequent the Canal Tavern for lunch or Evening meal. The food is simple but delicious and very reasonably priced. The welcome is always friendly and the atmosphere in the small restaurant is intimate. There has not been any trouble or rowdiness when we have visited. Highly recommended!

I'm rating this on its carvery and it get 4 stars. These guys know how to cook a joint of meat and a wide choice of fresh 'real' veg makes for the perfect Sunday plate. Nice to be asked 'one Yorkshire pudding or two?' And the stuffing had actual sausage meat in rather than the usual mush -or dry crumbs,... More

I have been to the Canal Tavern on various occasions and always found the food to be very good. I have dined there over the past three christmas's and had excellent Christmas days there and I shall be there again this Christmas. I have been there for the last two weeks at lunchtime with a party of eight and had... More

It's some years since I visited the Canal Tavern. What have I been missing! The atmosphere when entering was pleasant with l comfortable seating for those wishing for a meal There were a number of beers and lager on offer unfortunately only 2 real ales. The menu was adequate if not extensive., The staff were all friendly and attentive. We... More

Have eaten here a few times and have always been pleased, there is a varied menu plus daily specials. The food is well presented and tasty, the chips are to die for. If you haven't been for a while give it a try, it's the best pub food in the area and very reasonable on the wallet.

For a local pub the food is lovely, especially the Sunday roast. The prices are average and the staff are friendly. Recommended.

While perusing trip advisor I was surprised to see the tavern so poorly rated and felt obliged to write a review. We eat out most weeks and like to go further afield however if we decided to eat local the Tavern would always be first choice, we eat hereboth mid week and for Sunday lunch. The welcome is always good;... More
