Wedding reception

I must admit that I wasn't looking forward to my sons wedding reception at the Tavern but it had been years since I had been. I was amazed at the transformation of the back room - it even boasts a beer garden that was big enough for a bouncy castle. The food was Ok and the staff were great. It... read more

This is our local eating place that's family run and we can't recommend it enough. We have been using this for at least the past 5 years. The carvery on Sundays is fantastic. Always hot and fresh. With a choice of 3 meats, Yorkshire 's, crackling (depends on meat), and plenty of veg and potato choice. Along with great gravy... More

The Canal Tavern is the best around for Sunday diners, we go quite often and are always happy with the service and quality, my brother and his family travel from Wakefield very often to dine there as they say it's the best too

From the moment you enter the pub til the moment you leave, you are made to feel welcome and well looked after. The "girls" behind the bar were really welcoming and friendly and we soon found ourselves a table in the restaurant, our "waitress" was really lovely and so helpful. There were lots of specials as well as the main... More

We have been here for a family reunion for 20+ people. I never have been here before but certainly would return. The service was something else. We werent an easy group ( age between 14 and 80) but we have been looked after in the highest standard. All cudos to the ladies looking after us. The place looks very warm... More

Nice little pub with character. I've eaten here a couple of times in the past and food has been good quality. Staff are happy to help and I would say drinks are very reasonably priced.

We have eaten here many times and we have never been disappointed. The food is fresh, hot and home made...you don't get better than that. We have tried many of the dishes but one of my favourites is the Sweet & Sour Chicken, delicious. Give this pub a try, I don't think you will be disappointed, the service is good,... More

Nice little pub, polite staff and the meal was lovely. We both had sweet and sour chicken, was well presented.

Traditionally styled pub with restaurant area. Popped in with my wife while stopping off at Thorne for a short stay and had a reasonable time sat in the tavern. An enjoyable visit except, perhaps, for two small things. Firstly, the girl serving at the bar, while being pleasant enough, was clearly more interested in serving the locals than me, a... More

The Canal Tavern, as it's name suggests is alongside the canal in Thorne. We were travelling through the Village (too small yet to be a town) and stopped to stretch our legs with a stroll along the canal bank and admire the narrow boats parked up there. We turned a corner to cross a footbridge and there was the Canal... More
