After having lived around bedale for a number of years, I have frequented the bay horse a number of times. The atmosphere is that of a traditional village pub; friendly and inviting. This evening I decided that me and the Mrs would go here for a meal, and found homemade fish, chips and peas was the Friday night special! How... More

At 11.45 on a Sunday no menu available, still being prepared. Hospitality dust very missing. No great welcome. Very empty pub and you can see why.

Friendly locals, good food. Overlooked a traditional village green with quoits and cricket played every week. Last but not least good beer.

Visited the pub twice whilst we were staying in Crakehall. Both meals were good and the locals were very friendly. Fish and chips were available on a Friday which were very good. All the food was cooked fresh. Would go back again when in that area.

Food lovely. Hot roast beef sandwich with gravy, yummy. Onion rings were gorgeous. I thought they were home made!! Nothing to dislike.

We sat by a toasty fire and ate a delicious home cooked meal - the venison casserole was melt-in-the-mouth, the vegetables freshly and perfectly cooked. Our fishcake starter and steamed puds to finish were also delicious. And we were made very welcome - all round had an excellent evening.

We loved our evening here - we were staying locally and walked up to the pub for supper. We had such a nice evening chatting to the landlord and a couple of regulars. Food was good - freshly cooked and unpretentious.

We visited this pub several times during our recent stay in the village. We found everyone; both staff and other customers, very friendly and helpful. Unlike a previous reviewer we found the beer well kept an were introduced to Theakstones dark. The tried the food one evening and were very pleased with the quality and service. This is not a... We were staying overnight at the nearby Crakehall Watermill and visited this little Pub for a meal in the evening. Place was very friendly and the food good. Helped to make a perfect break.

The food was good, if a little unimaginitive but the bitter was very poor. Not what you'd expect from a local Yorkshire pub only a few miles from the Theakston Brewery. The atmosphere was friendly enough but it would've been so much better if we'd wanted to drink more of the beer.
