Sunday celebration

I recently visited here with a large group of people for a family birthday. I had never been before but only heard fantastic things. What a fab place with lots of hidden rooms as you turn the corners. The drinks prices were very reasonable, the food I did think the price tag was a tad high till... read more

We came to England this trip to experience some of the countryside and savor some history. The Lion Inn delivered an authentic 500 year old slice of that history when we stopped on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The interior showed it's age in the best respects; low ceilings, heavy beams, crooked everything. When we stopped, the place was full of... More

'Twas a cold dark moonlit nicht and we had a lovely English meal on top of the Moors. Fire crackling, beer flowing and hearty English faire. Highly recommended for atmosphere! Food is good !

This pub is in the middle of nowhere, so it's hardly surprising that it's largely a restaurant-style pub, which is a shame. I was hoping to see walkers and local farmers a plenty propping up the bar with sheepdogs everywhere. It was actually full of motorists who I assume had driven there especially for the food. The menu was a... More

Recently visited family in Redcar who took us for a meal here. I honestly don't know where to start, a proper real ale pub, the food menu was extensive and the food is to die for. The pub is in the middle of the North Yorkshire moors but is well worth the trip. A little piece of heaven.

Stopped at The Lion before a walk from the same location with the family. Despite being Easter Sunday we were served quickly. Food was of good standard and plenty of it, we sure needed the walk afterwards!

Visited here on Mother's Day. Despite the hoards eating and drinking we were most impressed with the rapid service. Even managed to find a cozy table in a lovely 'cranny' with beams and interesting decor.

Went here for a family meal early Sunday evening. The location of the pub is outstanding, apparently the highest on the moors, and the views are spectacular. The food was excellent and plentiful - there were six of us and none of us was able to finish our meals. The Barnsley Chops were truly delicious!! Selection of real ales to... More

went for Bonfire Night for a bar meal with my friends dogs as its away from all the noise and fireworks - a proper doggy do as there were quite a few folks doing the same thing with one couple staying there from Leeds. Good food, nice atmosphere by the lit fire, big portions.

Had a lovely Boxing Day meal here with family. The service was a bit slow but it was very busy with people coming and going all the time. If you like big portions this is the place for you. The food was excellent. The Inn itself is very old and a typically traditional English country pub with low beams, heartwarming... More
