We were in the area having walked along the old railway line from the junction. So we came for a late lunch. For this sort of thing it's perfect - sandwiches, a kids yorkshire pudding, a warm beef bap and drinks. Large portions, decent beer and drinks and a warm place on a windy old day. I'm not sure I'd... We came here on a recommendation having never heard of it before so without any expectations. Positives: My husband liked the lager, the location is breathtaking and the look of the pub itself is very quaint. Big negative: The food is shockingly bad! We, as a family enjoy our food and like to eat out quite often. This is one... More

Decided to try the Lion Inn on the spur of the moment. We went on a busy Sunday lunchtime but had booked a table in advance. Food was delicious and portion size was more than generous. Service was excellent and friendly. Tips: book a table to ensure getting a table in the restaurant rather than the bar. Don't have much... More

This an interesting pub set up in the North Yorkshire Moors. It has a very interesting series of bars and dining rooms with good open fires. when we were there the place seemed to be full of walkers. This perhaps influenced the meals. They were very good quality pub grub, but probably in deference to the 'walkers' as the main... More

a great spot to stay for either of the meals during the day. great place to spend a night or two, pub and restaurant always full of life. food portions very generious, vegetarian options good and not too limited compared with other pubs. always a place to at least pop in while we are visiting the area

I always have old peculiar casserole, tasty! This is a really popular pub with locals which speaks volumes. Worth a visit .

This 16th century inn stands in splendid isolation on top of the North York Moors located half way between somewhere small and nowhere in particular. It's well worth the scenic drive (dodging the sheep) for a meal here. The place has "TARDIS-like" qualities - an ever-expanding rabbit warren of dining areas with capacity for about 150 diners. (Watch out for... More

An oasis in the middle of nowhere and a welcome one at that after walking from Ingleby Cross, good real ale and good food, comfortable and very busy with eaters considering it's location, nice relaxed atmosphere but a small room.

Stopped by for lunch whilst in the area. Place was very busy as expected with bikers, walkers and families. Main bar/eating area a little cramped but there is a good atmosphere. Ordered a cheese roll and chips which was over priced. Roll was small for what you paid (over £4.00) and came with a small side salad. We were really... More
