Very good

Situated high above Rosedale and Farndale it offers expansive views across the North York Moors. Within, it is a welcoming haven serving good food and excellent ale in a cosy atmosphere. It has 11 rooms and is extremely popular with the walking fraternity so booking can be difficult. We enquired... read more

Our stay here while walking the C2C a second time was just as enjoyable as the first despite the fact the room (Room 6) was noticeably smaller. (I think we may have been spoiled by having Room 14 the first time). Most of the staff were friendly and pleasant. The older part of the building is steeped in history and... More

I was with a group of 33 ladys and every one said they thoroughly enjoyed their meal at this Inn. The Lion inn was beautifully kept and the staff very friendly.

The bar itself is lovely, and as other posters have said, has great potential. My wife ordered the cod and chips, and myself the steak and ale pie. The portions were large, but the quality I would describe as ok at best, think motorway service station quality. I would give it a miss if I'm ever back in the area.

We came here as a group on 6 on a Monday evening. I had the parmo which was average and nothing outstanding to anywhere else. My girlfriend had a steak. It was massive and cooked to perfection but the quality was poor and chewy. The most disappointing was desserts which are not homemade. I had the toffee crunch which I... More

Up to Yorkshire Moors for the Tour of Yorkshire we chose The Lion as it was a featured pub in the Good Pub Guide. The location is superb and there are plenty of tables inside and seperate tables in a large restaurent. The beer choice was good (excellent Wainwrights) and the bar staff helpful and friendly. As we were not... More

We came to England this trip to experience some of the countryside and savor some history. The Lion Inn delivered an authentic 500 year old slice of that history when we stopped on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The interior showed it's age in the best respects; low ceilings, heavy beams, crooked everything. When we stopped, the place was full of... More
