Huge Portions

You get huge portions of home-cooked food, with great real ales to wash it down. All in an olde worlde pub on the top of the Yorkshire Moors. It's a great place, but can get very busy at times. We enjoyed lamb chops (4!), home made chilli, and fish medley. And the delicious Thwaites Wainwright.

As a family of nine, Paul accommodated us perfectly, a beautiful table in one of the dining rooms. Fantastic service from the three lovely ladies who served us. T bones, sir loins and fillet Rossini, great chicken dishes from the specials menu, and the best part, home made chips and roasties. Great choice of meals, but the kids opted for... More

This is a lovely pub/restaurant/hotel. Went for lunch to celebrate my friends 50th Birthday. The food was fab, portions generous. It was the nicest steak and mushroom pie I have ever had. The steak lean and seculent. The chips homemade. Fluffy in the middle, crispy on the outside. The staff and owner were so nice and helpful. Will definately be... More

If you want a superb meal in an old fashioned real ale house then this is the place to go.A sixteenth century ale house in the North Yorkshire National Park. The views are spectacular. We have eaten here many times and the standard is always high, wether you are sitting having a bar meal or sitting in the restaurant. The service is really... More

It was a cold and wet day and arriving in the pub was so welcome. It was crowded at 1.30 but quickly cleared and it added to the atmosphere and warmth. Great choice of beers and a wide selection of food including plenty of fish and vegetarian dishes. all served very promptly despite being so busy. Food was simple pub... More

The folks at the Lion Inn were so so nice. We came in cold and wet and a miscommunication had landed us without a reservation. Everyone went out of their way to get us a place to stay and David even gave us a ride to the train station, saving us a 100 pound taxi ride!!! Thank you so much!... More

Our stay here while walking the C2C a second time was just as enjoyable as the first despite the fact the room (Room 6) was noticeably smaller. (I think we may have been spoiled by having Room 14 the first time). Most of the staff were friendly and pleasant. The older part of the building is steeped in history and... More

Situated high above Rosedale and Farndale it offers expansive views across the North York Moors. Within, it is a welcoming haven serving good food and excellent ale in a cosy atmosphere. It has 11 rooms and is extremely popular with the walking fraternity so booking can be difficult. We enquired last July regarding this last week only to find the... More
