Great food, outstanding location

Went here for a family meal early Sunday evening. The location of the pub is outstanding, apparently the highest on the moors, and the views are spectacular. The food was excellent and plentiful - there were six of us and none of us was able to finish our meals. The Barnsley Chops were truly... read more

went for Bonfire Night for a bar meal with my friends dogs as its away from all the noise and fireworks - a proper doggy do as there were quite a few folks doing the same thing with one couple staying there from Leeds. Good food, nice atmosphere by the lit fire, big portions.

Had a lovely Boxing Day meal here with family. The service was a bit slow but it was very busy with people coming and going all the time. If you like big portions this is the place for you. The food was excellent. The Inn itself is very old and a typically traditional English country pub with low beams, heartwarming... More

Spent a lovely Boxing Day here with family. The roaring fires & low ceilings make this 500+ year old venue a real traditional English pub. The food is great, & there are a surprising amount of modern drinks to choose from, along with the usual tipples. Accommodation is basic & small, but clean & tidy. We would definitely recommend a... We have thought about staying here, but very busy place and our attempts to make bookings have been met with the reponse "call back some other time, we're busy". Not what you want to hear when you call from Australia. Visited for a drink a couple of times, got one once, gave up the second time. Probably won't bother returning.

Visited with a friend on a Tuesday early evening, lovely little country pub with lots of character and very cosy however on entering no staff were visible and no one manning the bar, we took a table and had to go hunting for some menus ourselves, decided what we wanted and approached the bar to order, still no staff manning... We passed this pub on a Weds whilst having a drive out and decided to call in for lunch. It was just gone 12 and already busy. We both chose the steak n mushroom pie which with chips, peas and fresh carrots. The pie was absolutely lovely and tasty. The pie itself would have been enough as the portions are... More

The Lion Inn Pride themselves (Pride - get it!) on serving the more undiscerning customer and are far and away in a class of their own. There were so many things wrong that I can't list them all, so as a favour to the Inn I have developed a new menu for them. Enjoy :) STARTERS Prawn Cocktail Freshly bought... More

The Lion Inn to me is the best pub i have ever visited, the friendly staff, the warm atmosphere (especially when the fires are lit) This pub is so welcoming, as soon as you walk through the doors you are home! you approach the bar to find an enormous array of beers, lagers, and ciders, then there is the food....
