Decent portions of food, home cooked served quickly and hot. Would recommend the home made steak pie with proper chunks of meat, not mincemeat like other places, Good ice cream choices too and cheapest in New Quay. Highly recommended as they stay open longer than other eating places if you want a late meal.

Fish and chips as good as they come. Huge portion size and always tastes better by the sea. What more can I say

Basically a cafe with a fish and chip shop bolted on. Does what it says on the tin. Don;t expect too much and you'll be happy enough. A bit expensive on the pocket if there are four or five of you but then, where isn't at a seaside village.

We have had numerous visits to New Quay but have never eaten here before - think its because from the outside it looked like a cheap holiday-camp stype cafe to me but on this occasion a lot of the other restaurants were jam packed and we were all starving hungry so this seemed our only option for a sit-down meal.... We went to the Mariner restaurant because we couldn't get in the restaurant we wanted, what a fabulous place. The staff were more than helpful, and the food was great. Well cooked, well presented .The price was the best in the town, really good value.and like I said the staff were very polite and helpful. The decor is a bit dated... More

I have always recommended this fish & chip shop/restaurant to guests staying in our B&B. I was so disappointed, when my Husband and myself went in there today. Some of the staff were miserable and unwelcoming, as for the fish and chips!!! What happened to the lovely light crispy batter? The batter today was thick and stodgy and very unappetising,... More

The chips were well-cooked but we couldn't understand why they were so bland. We then tasted a drop of the vinegar and realised that restaurant waters down the vinegar so much that it is like dropping water on your chips. Is vinegar really that expensive?

They are to be congratulated, they have achieved the impossible, undercooked soggy thick batter wrapped around overcooked dry cod. Amazing! Our guests ordered Haddock and when it arrived they were stunned to receive bread-crumbed fillets. The waitress, who behaved as if she was a dense and resentful teenager on work experience who didn't really want to be there, admitted it... More
