Good ales, quirky decor, fun and different

Atop the Hampshire Downs the Trooper remains a favourite. Electic style and approach making best use of its isolated location. You wont be dissapointed.

We sensed something was wrong when we arrived. The waitress and the male drinks waiter did not appear to be on good terms as if they had had a row! We waited 30 mins before we asked for the menu. We then waited another 30 mins for our orders to be taken. The drinks order took a further 15 mins.... More

This was a Friday lunchtime visit, quite unplanned. My wife and I had a seriously nice experience. The staff were lovely, the food was excellent. We both had the £15 "2-course Monday-to-Thursday " menu. Only now am I reflecting that this was on a Friday....:-) With 2 medium glasses of wine and 2 small ones, the bill came to £48... More

I've known The Trooper for a few years now and it just seems to get better and better. You'll find nicely kept Ringwood ales and a menu the has something for everyone. You'll also be served by a team of helpful staff. If you want to eat it's best to book as it can get busy. It's a lovely pub... More

After a disappointing visit to another local pub where we left having not been fed or watered, we came across this little gem. Most welcoming people who politely served us with a fabulous meal. They have traditional and more spicy alternatives and not expensive either, and a good selection of beers. Many interesting artefacts to view on the walls. You... More

Two weeks ago our neighbours took us to "The Trooper Inn" as their daughter in law had received rave reviews about the food in the restaurant. It must be 18 years ago since we last visited, however, what a difference we found. The whole pub and restaurant is very tastefully decorated. Excellent service, excellent presentation of our meals and also... More

It's great when a place looks and feels right, where the staff are friendly, the surroundings comfortable and just a bit quirky, and the food and drink well up to the mark: such is my opinion of The Trooper. The Angus Burger and Sausages were both £11, and whilst we waited a selection of breads to nibble on was provided... More

Having been treated to Sunday Lunch here last month, I put in a request to my family to return for my birthday meal. We again visited on a Sunday Lunch time and as with the previous visit the food was delicious and the service excellent, even though the pub was busy we were served in a timely manner and made... We had a family lunch here for 26 people to celebrate my father-in-law's 80th birthday. Food and atmosphere were as excellent as ever, but the service goes above and beyond. Always made to feel very welcome here, even if only having a drink at the bar (unfortunately some places make you feel awkward as soon as you say you're not... More

The food was excellent. I am often left disappointed by roast beef, but it was done to perfection. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were served at a nice pace. The decor was very quirky and interesting and the candlelight and log fires made it very welcoming. It was possibly a bit on the pricey side for... More
