Lovely food, friendly relaxed service and great ambience

The food was excellent. I am often left disappointed by roast beef, but it was done to perfection. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were served at a nice pace. The decor was very quirky and interesting and the candlelight and log fires made it very welcoming. It was possibly a bit on... read more

My husband and I had a lovely light Sunday lunch here. Even though the pub was extremely busy the service and food were great. Really warm and welcoming atmosphere. Will definitely return.

We've been a few times recently, with various houseguests and just us. It's great to be welcomed so warmly by Hassan and his staff - you almost feel like a local even on your first visit. Superb beers and delicious food. We've generally had a bit of a wait for food, but it's always been worth waiting for, and you... More

We were very lucky to be treated to Sunday lunch at The Trooper. I had a delicious goats cheese starter whilst my Mother had the salmon starter which she equally enjoyed. On to the mains, we ordered rare roast beef, butternut squash, leek and butter bean stew and for the third member of our party, roast chicken. Each dish was... More

When I win the lottery, I'll buy a pub and it will look exactly like the Trooper. Love the lighting, the music and the unusual, interesting stuff decorating walls and ceiling. The steak and speciality lamb are fantastic, and the staff are lovely.

OK basically says it all. Table reservation was taken OK and service OK. Everything a little on the expensive side for a table in the bar (not a separate restaurant). There was a jazz music trio playing but this could not be heard over the general chatter.

We chose to sit in an alcove in the bar area and, being the only customers, we were served promptly. We shared tasty snacks served in little buckets - a novel idea - and had our meal surrounded by photos of film and stage stars of yesteryear. Altogether an enjoyable experience.

Found the Inn on a camp site recommendation. In a lovely countyside location. The atmosphere was warm and pleasent. Staff attentive and friendly. We had the steaks. Cooked perfectly for both of us as we asked. Accommodating in varying the meal otions. One criticism on orderind the Lamb and Beef Wellington it would have been better to have the side... More

We arrived on a very busy Friday night without a booking ! we were found a table by very welcoming staff. The tempura prawns were very good as was the individual beef wellington. The service was excellent even though the restaurant was full. They have several guest beers and the wine list is very comprehensive. Altogether a very enjoyable meal... More
