We spent a very enjoyable Sunday lunch inside on the bench under the skylight. The atmosphere was informal and you order at the bar. The food was what we came for and it didn't disappoint. The curried mussels were worth going back for a second bowl, but we changed and enjoyed a superbly cooked nz flounder that couldn't have been... More

The builders arm hands down is the best place I have ever eaten at. Granted my friend knew one of the owners so we were particularly spoiled, but regardless the food was amazing. We are in the bistro and sampled the range of entrées, my favourite was the whipped cod roe appetiser but all of them were delicious. The guys... More

The first time I came here was on a Thursday afternoon when I was exploring Smith St and noticed that it was full of people in suits and ties. I suspected that they were having some lunch and spending the rest of the day drinking (namely because there is no office buildings in the area). I liked the beer garden... More

Its been a while between drinks - the old Builders Arm's I remember was a classic Aussie pub - a little warn at the edges, perhaps a little daggy with some retro 70's plastic furniture and a little light on patrons. Now, its a transformed beast - plenty of trendy punters enjoying the various areas inside the spacious (albeit a... More

Four of us shared 3 amazing entrees. rotisserie flounder, curry mussels and a baked egg with seafood. We ordered the roast port as it takes an hour to cook, it is a serve for 4 people, which we could not finish. We drank 300 mls of french white, beers, cider and a magnificent red from Alto Adige , Italy. $145 per... More

Went here to meet friends on a Saturday afternoon. The hotel is nicely presented and a crowd picked up for the Saturday night. I don't mind paying extra for something nice but don't like feeling like I'm being fleeced. The Shadowfax Pinot Gris is sold at Dan's for $18.99 so I thought the $50 price tag excessive. Most wines had... More

We enjoyed a great Saturday afternoon eating good food and the Fitzroy life pass by. We had the fish pie, mixed salad and a blue cheese platter. All beautifully prepared.

A great lunch time escape for either a full-on meal or a more casual bite. There is the option to choose from the bar menu or restaurant menu and regardless of what meal you settle on seating is permitted in all area. Can't go wrong with the Reuben sandwich or a prawn omelette, the fries are fantastic and so is... More

I'd only been in Melbourne a couple of hours, and after getting to our hotel, a friend had recommended this pub for dinner. I was pretty exhausted but decided to go anyway. We had a drink first, they have a lovely selection of wines. We then moved to the bistro, a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The waitress was brilliant,... More

They've done a great refurb on this old pub. Good selection of beers on tap with top quality service. Haven't really tried the food but the fries are excellent.
