I was sooo looking forward to an empanada, unfortunately they had sold out by the time I ordered, admittedly it was after 1pm. I settled instead for a Ropa Vieja Arepa (Old clothes beef) which arrived with little dishes of guacamole and salsa on the side. This was a good lunch sized portion costing $12 and very tasty. I also... More

Fantastic coffee and THE BEST vegan meal I've ever had! Beautifully presented and you could tell they had put the love in! :) Great service from genuinely nice people. In Melbourne for two days and went there both days - wish I could visit a LOT more often. This would be my regular coffee shop if I lived around here.... More

South/Central American food, coffee and service! I think it says something about a place when you have people from that country owning and running the café. Great for a quick catch up with friends over coffee or lunch.

Great coffee, best beans, excellent service, cool music, great atmosphere. Sonido is one of my all time favourite places to have brunch in Fitzroy.

We had breakfast here on our recent trip to Melbourne. It was a delicious start to the day! Chilli, egg, beans, beef, pintos with an assortment of sides. The coffee was great and the staff are also helpful and most friendly. It is certainly a trendy restaurant but wouldn't last long if it wasn't delicious. It was good to tantalise... More

Decided to venture out to Fitzroy one day. Tried Sonido! which is a southern american cafe. Love the vibe and absolutely love the food!!!! Tried ropa vieja arepa (i.e. old clothes beef?). Decided not to add any sides to my arepa which got me a little concerned as I dined at other cafes and usually w/o sides, the dish isn't... More

Sonido is part of the current wave of Mexican/Latino/Latin American food and drink that is sweeping Melbourne and other cities. In the case of his tiny, crowded cafe located in the now uber-trendy Gertrude St, the geographical references are Colombia and Venezuela. The menu is very small and consists mostly of empanadas and, especially, of the flat corn cakes called... More

Funky little cafe, South America style food, reasonable coffee and interesting and different options for breakfast. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

enchilada - bought in so no chance to leave out the cheese. Beans tasteless. we were a group of 5 and they forgot one meal completely - no apology, and then it tookanother 30 minutes after several prompts. the staff all seem depressed. surly service. very limited menu. Avoid!
