Stumbled across this place last week looking for a warm snack. The menu outstide caught my eye with the prices and the choice available so decided to try it. Very pleased to find plenty of seating, friendly attentive staff, and a good menu to choose from. The restaurant was clean and the toilets spotless. The food arrived quickly and ideal... More

Recent improvements to the cafe enhance the atmosphere. The real deal is the food, the sandwiches are definitely the beat value in the area for miles, fresh ingredients and plenty of them the coffee spot on too. Friendly staff tops it off. Quality cafes in the Midlands can be quite difficult to fine thanks to the recession, and this one... More

Arrived in Roscrea recently with a friend looking for something healthy and light for lunch. Not seeing anywhere but pub carvery type offerings, we asked a passerby who directed us up the road to the ugly duckling. As soon as we walked in we knew we had found a gem. It is bright with white and blue decor and best... More

We were a party of 2 adults and 5 children. The food was all homemade, fresh and gorgeous. Staff were so helpful and nothing was a problem for the children. Highly recommend a visit and would definitely call back to Roscrea to sample some more of the beautiful food. Thankyou all for a most enjoyable afternoon.

My sister and I popped in for lunch on our way to Leap Castle north of Rosecrea. We are so happy that we did! The food was delicious. I love Irish soda bread, and the Ugly Duckling had the fretted tastiest bread of all the restaurants I had it in Ireland (granted, it is a small sample, but it was... More

I was sceptical when a friend suggested we meet in Roscrea for lunch and told me about this great new cafe to be honest because my experience of dining in cafes in Roscrea were far from “great”. I was delighted I agreed though. The staff were all very friendly and they all seemed to be enjoying their work which is... More

I have eaten here on 3 occasions and each time the food has been of an excellent quality (and plenty of it), the coffees made exactly as they were ordered, staff nice and friendly, the only quibble I would have with it is the ventilation seems to be quite poor and you can leave with the smell of chips on... Stopped off for a snack with a friend during an exploration of ruins and monuments around Roscrea and North Tipperary. Roscrea didn't seem to have much to offer until we found The Ugly Duckling.' We had scones, cappuccino and some cakes. Service was timely. Staff were friendly. Food faultless (especially the chocolate roulade). Toilets were clean and well maintained (but... More

We were driving from Dublin to Co. Clare in the West of Ireland and stumbled upon this place. And wow what a find. Great place for veggies and pescatarians like us. Simply delicious with great service.
