Have had a carry out several times but thought we would treat ourselves to a 'sit in' tea. Very friendly efficient staff as many have said before quite a quirky décor but hey we were there to eat and not do an interior design review. Good choice of menu himself went for a large fish supper and boy was it... More

Very good lunch, presented well in quirky atmosphere restaurant. Portion size was large, soup was an excellent starter, followed by a very large main course. Value for money was incredible.

We had a very large but well cooked late lunch with friends at this quirky restaurant. Great staff and some humorous touches, added to the enjoyment. My only complaint was the enormous plate of food even though it was supposedly a small portion!

The La Mirage Restaurant in Helmsdale Scotland was a favourite of both Barbara Cartland and Clarissa Dickson Wright, so there was no argument today in making it our Highlands stop. We passed on the Chicken Kiev and Fish Suppers and went straight for the breaded haddock and the Argentinian Pinot Grigio (the more popular of the 2 whites). The meal... More

We read about this in our Lonely Planet Guide and decided we just had to go. We weren't disappointed. Our fish was fresh, perfectly cooked, with mushy peas, salad and lots of freshly cooked chips. Service was smiling and attentive. The decor pays homage to Barbara Cartland who frequented it. Don't miss this fun experience.

You can always rely on great food here no matter when you go. The fish is excellent, all good locally caught, fantastic batter and great portions. Make sure you're hungry before you go. The staff are always friendly and helpful. It is the only place I regularly recommend for eating in the area. We have Belgian friends who visit us... More

This is a great fish restaurant which also has a take away next door. The portions are huge so if you don't have a huge appetite ask for a small portion as it is still a BIG fish

Wow, this is some restaurant. Excellent range of food on the menu, and the helpings were colossal. The four of us who ate there were very impressed and will go again. We highly recommend it. We also liked the whimsical furnishings. Hugh & Catherine Taylor

We stopped over on the way to JOG from Golspie and the recommendations were not wrong. The history of the establishment and it's obvious ties to Barbara Cartland are there for all to see. A little eccentric decor wise, but the food portions are generous and the chips, outstanding. "Just like my Mum used to make".
