la mirage -lovely little restaurant

At first I was a bit dubious. The decor is a bit stuck in the 80s but it had great reviews. We did not book but still got a table. The restaurant was busy and the staff very friendly and attentive. My husband had the prawn cocktail starter and I had smoked salmon. Main course I had smoked... read more

We visited here as my other half came here when when he was younger and was amazing, unfortunately the owner sadly passed away and it was taken over by who has it now. The service is slow and unorganised and the portions are way too big! They've put the prices up on everything because of the wastage but they don't... More

We visited this restaurant because of its reputation of being "the best fish & chips restaurant in Scotland". Well, what a disappointment. The restaurant is packed with tables, and when they are occupied (which they are most of the time) there is virtually no room to move around. We did not envy the friendly staff, who had to navigate very... More

For the last 5 years when visiting Cromarty in Scotland I've made the 80 miles pilgrimage to eat at "La Mirage". I wouldn't miss it and you shouldn't too - it's that good. The chips are out of this world and the fish is beautifully fresh. The portion sizes are generous, to say the least, and the food is freshly... More

Ate here on two separate nights during a fishing trip to Helmsdale. Friendly welcome followed by huge portions of freshly cooked food. On the second visit two of us shared a shellfish platter which was so fresh, well presented and tasted sublime. Certainly not over priced and a big big recommendation

We have used this restaurant and it has never let us down, the large fish tea is a challenge but good value and quite a feast not for the faint hearted

Four of us went for dinner tonight (21st Feburary) due to a recommendation. We were greeted by a cheery and friendly waitor, I think his name is Joesph. Our food was of good quality and huge portions. But Joseph made our experience much more enjoyable with his friendly and polite nature. It seemed he hadnt worked there that long as... More

I had meals here almost every evening I was in Helmsdale. It is friendly and the food is very good. Portions are huge, so proceed with caution! I liked the salmon starter, garlic bread and fried scampi, too, plus strawberry tart. I really like it here although it may not be to everyone's taste.

Only used the takeaway service but the food was very nice and plentiful. Would definitely go back again.

Gosh, what a place. It's like stepping in to Barbra Cartland's front room. Very quirky decor with lots of stuff to look at - it's a museum in itself. Food is great and cooked to order. Fish was the size of a shark and the veggie burger was enough for two people. Chips are brilliant and not at all greasy.... More
