The Dolphin, now the hub of the community, is an ideal resting base to explore Thorpeness and our neighbouring towns Aldeburgh and Southwold, or just enjoy a peaceful walk around Snape Maltings and RSPB Minsmere reserve plus many more local must sees. A short stroll takes you to miles of unspoilt Suffolk Heritage coast and the very popular Mear, a boating lake which is on our doorstep and just up the road - The House in the Clouds. The Head chef is passionate about local produce and the kitchen not only creates a daily changing menu for the restaurant using some of the best local producers but makes and supplies Thorpeness Village store, attached to the Dolphin Inn, with chutneys, jams, pies and pastries. As a free house the bar dispenses award winning real ales all sourced locally from independent producers including Adnams, Brandon brewery and Woodfords. We have developed an excellent wine list with wines sourced from some of the best cellars around the world featuring alongside a large selection of bourbons, single malts and port. A roaring log fire in the winter, a huge garden with barbecues in the summer and well appointed four star en-suite bedrooms, this is a genuine pub where you can expect great food and great beer served in a warm friendly environment.

Lovely friendly staff and good food

Excellent service with friendly staff. Really good food nicely presented. We were impressed with the fact that much of the produce was locally sourced. Good selection of wines and cask ales. Would recommend without hesitation.

Have eaten here many times, and food is reliable and consistent. Note that during the Summer Holidays, the lunch menu is served from the outside counter (no waitress service), and there are no daily specials. The food on the seasonal menu is good, but not outstanding, and is well described. Pricing is fair. Welcome is very good. Ideal for walkers... More

Have just had lunch at The Dolphin and the food is of very good quality indeed. We ate in the lovely large garden, food is well presented and tasty. Service is good with good wine selection and well kept Adnams local brews. I had Cromer fresh crab - superb and my wife had crayfish salad. All good and worth a... More

To be fair we didn't eat here. We just called in for a drink after an exhausting row on the Meare. It was a gorgeous sunny day and the garden of the Dolphin is amazing with areas of shade and dun and plenty of seats.

The Dolphin is run by a genuinely lovely man called David. Under him the restaurant has improved hugely over the years and is so popular that in the summer holidays you have to book at least a couple of weeks ahead for a table! The menu offers a variety of Mediterranean inspired fish and meat dishes including salads together with... More

A nice menu with mains £11-£20, starters £4-7 and desserts hovering around £5.50. Good wine list too. Fine for vegetarians, two main courses were veggie. Personally I had a dressed crab with a lovely salad and seasoned new potatoes, £10.95 and highly recommended. The main dining room has a hardwood floor and is very, very noisy. Thorpeness is a holiday... More

We hadn't eaten at this pub for years but decided to try it again on a day out. The pubs grounds are lovely and the interior light and airy. We found the service to be friendly and good. The food was very well presented and of good quality although perhaps a little on the expensive side especially for one of... More

Found this Inn on the off chance by driving through Thorpeness. Very close to Aldeburgh which we were staying. Very nice restaurant and pleasant staff. Not over-crowded but did cater for children. Has a nice garden and covered area. Good freshly cooked food. Not too large a menu but has specials of the day and priced very reasonably. Good value... More
