The Dolphin, now the hub of the community, is an ideal resting base to explore Thorpeness and our neighbouring towns Aldeburgh and Southwold, or just enjoy a peaceful walk around Snape Maltings and RSPB Minsmere reserve plus many more local must sees. A short stroll takes you to miles of unspoilt Suffolk Heritage coast and the very popular Mear, a boating lake which is on our doorstep and just up the road - The House in the Clouds. The Head chef is passionate about local produce and the kitchen not only creates a daily changing menu for the restaurant using some of the best local producers but makes and supplies Thorpeness Village store, attached to the Dolphin Inn, with chutneys, jams, pies and pastries. As a free house the bar dispenses award winning real ales all sourced locally from independent producers including Adnams, Brandon brewery and Woodfords. We have developed an excellent wine list with wines sourced from some of the best cellars around the world featuring alongside a large selection of bourbons, single malts and port. A roaring log fire in the winter, a huge garden with barbecues in the summer and well appointed four star en-suite bedrooms, this is a genuine pub where you can expect great food and great beer served in a warm friendly environment.

Very good for meat eaters

Our guests tell us that the meat dishes were great but as we are vegetarians we struggled to be quite honest . Lovely large outdoor seating area and very friendly staff . Would give it another go if more veggie dishes

We had booked into the Thorpeness Golf Hotel, but decided to eat at the Dolphin, great location and the local beers were great, our host Phillip was more than helpful with good service and recommendations, food was very good & good value, after dinner drinks a must! Would consider booking a room next visit.

While the serving staff were very friendly, the standard of the food was poor. The mussels in coconut and chilli sauce had obviously been cooked hours before and then warmed up in an oven or under a heat lamp, and accordingly were very dry and stringy. My wife's humous and parma ham platter featured pita bread that was so hard... More

Having stayed nearby we visited here on a number of occasions at different times of the week. Firstly this is definitely a good food pub rather than a drink only pub. If the weather is nice and you can utilise the garden then just having a drink is much easier. However at lunch and dinner, this pub is geared towards... More

Very friendly welcome on arrival and we were shown to our table. We were given plenty of time to study the menu and the specials board. Our meals arrived, steaks and lamb, and were well presented and lovely and hot. All our food was cooked to perfection. As for desserts...the bitter chocolate cheesecake and hot pineapple in rum.....were to die... More

We were a large 'evening before the wedding party', including the bride, groom, bridesmaids and ushers, both mothers together with assorted family and friends, and we arrived unannounced. The staff were just great, they weren't phased, found seats for us all and served great food in a timely fashion with big smiles for everyone! So a big thumbs up for... More

After a row on the Mere, we went into the pub for Sunday lunch. The beer was well kept, although the lime and sodas were charged as soft drinks. The roast lunch was delicious, the beef was good, although well done. The pork belly was not overly fatty and the crackling was very good. The roast came with a tasty... More

Had a trip to Thorpeness from Lowestoft and had a great lunch in this lovely pub - it has a great atmosphere and is decorated beautifully - the staff are very welcoming and hospitable - we only had sandwiches but they were beautiful, the bread was really fresh and the salad and chips were gorgeous - a real lunchtime treat!...
