Took the mother-in-law here for a random Monday lunch out. The food was very good: my mother-in-law had the soup which didn't come with bread but they were more than happy to give her some. My husband and I both had haddock and chips. The portion of haddock was generous and we were told that the fish is bought fresh... More

We popped in for a light lunch today. As soon as we walked in the warm heating enveloped us, not only from the open fire but the hot radiators as well. Fab. Three of the staff who we passed also said hello and welcome, and the barman brought our drinks to our table (we were fortunate that there was a... More

Being a fan of alcoholic beverages and having only just moved to Hertfordshire I've frequented a good selection of drinking establishments recently in my quest to find one befitting of my custom and finally my search is over. Best Pub in Hertfordshire for both food and drink. Staff and management are perfect and the location is great. Ideal for groups... More

We tried to go here before and they couldn't facilitate us, we booked plenty in advance for my birthday and it was well worth it! excellent staff and great food, definitely one of the best pubs around this area.

Searched for a decent pub restaurant to have a work meeting over dinner and after checking TripAdvisor reviews booked here for a Monday evening. Excellent. I arrived early at half 5, a weary traveller and was given a table by the fire and asked if a cup of tea or coffee might help... followed by an attentive top up as... More

Visited just before Christmas with two friends. Booked over the phone by a friendly chap. Had a table in the bar and was served by friendly staff, not rushed and not too slow either. Great food, a lot better standard than pub grub, very good quality and set out lovely on the plate.

We had a really nice meal here on the Saturday after Christmas. The atmosphere is what us expats call really authentic – a real pub atmosphere with very good rustic but tasty food. We had a really nice bottle of wine – good food – nice busy atmosphere with friendly staff. What more can you ask for.. worth a detour.

Nice and friendly. They change the menu every day, but with only four main courses on the menu it was very restrictive. No vegetarian main meal, had to choose from the starters. Stripped beef in the baps for the children did not appear to be very appetising - they left most of it!

I went for a family meal to celebrate a birthday. All of us really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The food is brilliant - it is more than a gastropub, it is haute cuisine! The atmosphere is made lovely by attentive staff and good music (not too loud). It is also very well priced. I highly recommend the custard... More

We live relatively close so decided to book a special anniversary treat! We were not disappointed. As expected this is a "fine dining" restaurant. Not cheap but a treat! The food is absolutely superb. The ambiance great, with a roaring fire and small intimate alcoves. The wine list is impressive, and a first class sommelier to help us to choose!... More
