We visited for afternoon tea (party of 15), to celebrate my mother's birthday. The food was wonderful, gluten free and other dietary requirements were well catered for. My mother was thrilled with the birthday cake made by the chef. We were impressed with the way the booking was dealt with. On the day, the serving staff were friendly and helpful... More

We were eating here as part of a large party including vegans and gluten free. We did warn the hotel about the guests' dietary requirements and they made sure that everyone was very well catered for including a cooked breakfast for our vegans.

Breakfast was a little rushed (we hadn't sat down before we asked for our choice for breakfast, our full English breakfast arrived before we had finished our cereals) and expensive at £15 per head

Alveston House Restaurant is an old style hotel restaurant with good service, nice food and a very 'meat and two veg' Sunday lunchtime menu. Sunday clientele are largely family parties of up to 10 who often seem to be celebrating the birthday of an elderly relative. If you need a safe and welcoming place to do this you will find... More

I was looking for somewhere to celebrate our anniversary near Thornbury and decided to give Carriages a try (because of the other reviews). Service was excellent - we got everything we wanted without being pestered. Food was excellent - my wife had one of the best steak and chips I've seen for a long time. The menu is traditional but... We had dinner on a Sunday, and it proved a delightful evening. The staff were welcoming and efficient, friendly without being over-familiar. The dining room was elegant and comfortable. The food was excellent: the a-la-carte menu was unusual without being over-elaborate, and everything was beautifully cooked and well presented. Little touches like the complimentary amuse-bouches made it that little bit... More

Having to find somewhere to celebrate my 50th birthday with my family which was not over powering in size and where I knew the food was going to be excellent, I knew straight away the restaurant to choose. I have eaten here on a lunchtime on a couple of occasions and the food was excellent then too. The staff at... More

what a joy this was on a sunny afternoon, celebrating 2 friends' birthdays. Even though we were using PG Tips Cuppa Club vouchers, we were treated the same as if we were paying full price for our tea. The service was excellent, the setting lovely and food delicious. I am gluten intolerant which can be a real problem, especially in... More

This is a small hotel, which has very friendly but professional staff. Not one part of this hotel could I complain about. We had a very nice afternoon tea in beautiful garden, with exceptional service, nothing was too much trouble, one of our group has an allergy, they took so much trouble caring for her, she felt they went out...
