Overnight stay with dinner with friends

Stayed here and both drank and ate in the bar/restaurant. Great traditional pub well looked after with decent beers and a good wine selection. The food, well just superb really fresh, well cooked and served by very helpful and friendly staff. Pea and mint risotto was stand out. We'll be back

Myself and my family had our evening meal at the John Barleycorn in Duxford. We do live local but don't often eat out locally. We are so glad we did. We all had different meals, from fillet steak to pie of the day . Every meal was cooked perfectly with fantastic service. This restaurant is a little gem and we... More

Visited after reading about it in good pub guide and wanting to try somewhere new. Pretty little pub from outside and lots of character and atmosphere on the inside. Visited on a Sunday and it was busy so we were pleased we booked. Enjoyed a drink before ordering food, once we had ordered we waited about half an hour for... More

There's real potential here but the whole just doesn't knit together. Lovely old building, one pleasant person serving, the other a bit offhand and not really dressed to inspire confidence in the place. Our sandwiches were basic to say the least, just slabs of poorly cut bread with just a dollop of what appeared to be commercial coleslaw, no finesse... More

We stayed at this pub on our way to Kent last Friday night. The rooms were adequate, clean and comfortable. The meal was excellent! We had steak and chips and the steak was one of the best that I have had! Proper chips too! The real ale selection .....one of the reasons that we chose the pub was very good.... More

We have eaten here on quite a few occasions and the food never fails to disappoint. This time we were lucky enough to stay over and the breakfasts are just as good as the rest of the meals. The staff are always very welcoming, friendly and efficient and the ambience is just what you want in a traditional English pub.... More

We arranged to meet some friends here. All the staff were extremely friendly and polite. We all had the soup of the day, followed by the pie of the day. Portions were very large. Unfortunately 3 of the 4 bowls of soup had to be returned as they were only tepid, but that was the only hiccup along the way. The... More

If you are looking for well sourced and well cooked pub food (as opposed to "gastro") don't hesitate. We ate there 2 evenings and both had the steak pie the first evening and sea bass and sirloin steak the second evening. Very good as was the choice of beers. Those who have or are intending to visit IWM Duxford might... More

Enjoyed a nice lunchtime meal here. This is a proper old-style, village pub - with an open fire and a comfortable interior that harks back to times gone by. There is no music or flashing lights from games or vending machines to spoil the enjoyment of a quiet drink, a chat with friends or a tasty meal. The service was... More
