Description: The Black Horse is a family owned Inn with character and style set in a small hamlet in Bedfordshire. The Black Horse was built in the 17th Century, and although it has been updated and given a contempory style, it still holds its charm and character. With it's exposed original beams, inglenook fireplace and low ceilings, the bar is warm and welcoming - perfect for relaxing with a drink or a glass of wine. The restaurant consists of two distinct dining areas each offering their own unique style and atmosphere with either garden or courtyard outlooks. Our seasonally changed menu's use only the freshest ingredients sourced locally (where possible). The dishes are expertly prepared and presented by a team of highly qualified chef's.

The layout and atmosphere are excellent. Very positive to see a bar immediately in front of you as you walk in, usually with a smiling face behind it. The food is OK, somewhat formulaic and slightly pricey (vegetables, potatoes, etc are usually extra). The owners treat the customers as idiots pricing most items with an amount ending in 95p. Why... Been here many times,as it is a favourite of mine, but never for Sunday lunch. This year as my birthday fell on a sunday and the pub closes at about 6pm we went for lunch. Nothing wrong with the setting, food or service but I do think it was a little expensive for what was just a Sunday roast!

We have eaten here for years . The Venue has been expanded to create a great county restaurant. Food IS amazing and quite well priced, shame we can't get a cheap taxi to it as the wine list is very tempting. Owners are lovely and staff courteous.

Been here quite a lot lately as a lady that lunches (in my dreams). Food is always good and the menu is very varied. The staff are attentive without being in your face. The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. The decor adds to a great place to eat. They also have a couple of rooms if you really fancy spoiling... More

Had a family get together at this lovely pub. We have been many times before as a family and it is always enjoyable. The food is great. Lots of imaginative starters all delicious. The main courses are delicious and generous. We loved the ginger sponge pudding with custard and delicious ginger ice cream. The staff are brilliant and very efficient.... More

We had visited as a couple many years ago BC (before children) as a posh-meal destination and to go back with them and friends was something we were looking forward to. A small traditional pub building set on its own on a countryside road with (now) a couple of modern extensions, one more dark and intimate and one more light,... More

We decided to treat ourselves to an early Christmas lunch at the Black Horse and were not disappointed. Had a drink in the nicely decorated bar before going through for the meal. Starters of smoked salmon and compression of chicken leg were delicious, traditional turkey etc for our main course was excellent and the puddings - poached pear and a... More

The food is innovative, well produced and delicious. A huge wine selection complemented this superb meal. I ate here with friends for my 65th birthday and I couldn't have enjoyed it more.

We went to the black Horse Thursday lunchtime, were greeted, and sat near the bar, until we had decided from the lunchtime menu what we would all like. Venessa bless her, she must have asked us ladies at least 3 times, if we had decided, no pressure felt from the staff at any time. The staff were very friendly and... More

Visited here on Saturday night with a friend. This was my second visit this year after having been for lunch so was looking forward to dinner. Service was slick and efficient and staff knowledgeable about food and wine choices. A great night and not too stuffy or pretentious. Just good food done well. Must come back again in 2015. A...
