The Black Horse is a family owned Inn with character and style set in a small hamlet in Bedfordshire. The Black Horse was built in the 17th Century, and although it has been updated and given a contempory style, it still holds its charm and character. With it's exposed original beams, inglenook fireplace and low ceilings, the bar is warm and welcoming - perfect for relaxing with a drink or a glass of wine. The restaurant consists of two distinct dining areas each offering their own unique style and atmosphere with either garden or courtyard outlooks. Our seasonally changed menu's use only the freshest ingredients sourced locally (where possible). The dishes are expertly prepared and presented by a team of highly qualified chef's.

Not it's usual standard

The menu was poor and not much choice, the food was not up to its usual standard, crab and prawn starter was like soup, main course there was not much choice the desert was not as we expected. Just to finish no cream for the coffee. I did not post this review until now as I thought we may have... read more

Everything was excellent apart from the conservatory area was a bit too noisy. So if you are hard of hearing make sure you ask for a table in another area!!

we have frequented this excellent restaurant on a few occasions for special occasion diners (birthdays etc) but we have popped in a couple of times for lunch recently. if you never eat anything else in your life you must try the fish and chips. Simple, tradition fare elevated to gastronomic delights. Both my husband and I can confirm that this... More

This was my second visit and I thought it might be better as most reviews were good but my opinion hasn't changed. There was a warm welcome into avery attractive pub/ restaurant. We had a very nice table in the window. The staff were friendly apart from one female manager who was most definitely over friendly.! Service was fine after... More

There are some fabulous hidden treats to be had in Central Bedfordshire not only from the ancient monuments that litter the landscape to Bedfordshire's grastro pub diners. I really don't want to advertise too much, otherwise you Travellers from afar will book us out. Mouth-watering concoctions, my saliva trickles down my face and my tummy rumbles and it’s only the... The steak was excellent. Raspberry soufflé was superb. Quick service. Friendly staff. Only slight criticism was not having the canapés explained.

This is one of rural Bedfordshire little gems. The food is truly top draw and modestly priced. Mouthwatering food and a very good wine lost at affordable prices. A treat well worth the effort of travelling get to this venue - if a little rural for some townies as you have to drive to get there. Don't be put off... More

A group of ten of us went for Sunday lunch here yesterday. I booked the table well in advance and, as requested, e mailed our meal choices several days before our visit. On arrival they had no knowledge of the prior meal choices. A very smart waiter told us about the specials and took our orders, from there things went... More
