The Black Horse is a family owned Inn with character and style set in a small hamlet in Bedfordshire. The Black Horse was built in the 17th Century, and although it has been updated and given a contempory style, it still holds its charm and character. With it's exposed original beams, inglenook fireplace and low ceilings, the bar is warm and welcoming - perfect for relaxing with a drink or a glass of wine. The restaurant consists of two distinct dining areas each offering their own unique style and atmosphere with either garden or courtyard outlooks. Our seasonally changed menu's use only the freshest ingredients sourced locally (where possible). The dishes are expertly prepared and presented by a team of highly qualified chef's.

Just returned from an evening out with friends. Food was superb. Staff very helpful. Beautifully decorated inside and out. My one complaint is that as the evening went on, the large bifold doors could have been closed a little, as I was constantly batting away flies....it was also a little chilly. But overall a lovely evening. Wouldn't hesitate to return.

Our party of four ate lunch at the Black Horse and unfortunately we were very disappointed. Apart from the vegetarian main course the others were particularly bland and ordinary, the desserts were only marginally better. The service was particularly disorganized and extremely slow; when we complained to one of the staff about the very poor service they were rude and... More

We went for lunch with our daughter's family. It is a really popular gastropub with a good menu , very good food and friendly, efficient staff. Only slight downside is whilst they highlight they are child friendly( eg children's fun packs provided) they do not have a children's menu and their website offer to do child specials was not borne... I went to the black horse mid June with my husband to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary and I had booked the table probably a couple of weeks prior to going. It was for a Monday evening and I was asked at the time of booking if it was a special occasion so I said yes it's a wedding anniversary.... More

Having left a glowing review I now have to say that I cannot recommend it any more. We had a very poor meal which included the vegetarian dish that was inedible. The kitchen agreed and took this from our bill, however there was no offer of a replacement or a real apology. Waiting staff are pleasant but ineffectual, we waited... More

We have just returned from a very enjoyable experience at this charming gastro pub in the Bedfordshire countryside. The establishment itself is attractive and welcoming. There is even an attendant to help you park. Inside the old inn has been tastefully extended with the addition of conservatories which add much light. It is very comfortable. The staff are smart and... More

We have eaten here many times in the last few years and I have posted a lot of very positive feedback. However, when we ate here on Saturday evening for my birthday, we were bitterly disappointed. The starters were bland, but the main courses were both nicely cooked (but massive portions) and dessert was tasty. However the service was chaotic,... More

Hello KaVaughan, Our regular customers, such as yourself, are extremely important to us, so to read your review saddens me. The Black Horse prides itself on great customer service and has built up a reputation for its friendly and attentive waiting staff. To read that on Saturday night we missed the mark with you is not something I take lightly... More
