Great beer; less good food

This hotel/pub suffers from the proximity to the much better Lister Arms in the same village. The place looks a bit drab, the wallpaper and decor is awful, but the beer IS good and the Old Peculiar was delicious. The restaurant does not manage well when rushed. While the rabbit pie was hot and... read more

Before embarking on the Malham circular walk, wife and I decided to 'fill-up' and stopped at the Buck for lunch. I chose the Rabbit pie and wife the chicken and Mushroom. Absolutely lovely pie filled with lean wild rabbit ( as shot by Dave Parker ! ) traditional style chips and a serving of veg. Very nice.

Brilliant food and service no issues seen people moan about the beer prices what do they expect there is no where else near by and why not support local business otherwise it will go! Highly recommend thanks

Arrived early 12.30 pm for lunch. Very friendly staff and pleasant English pub atmosphere. I informed them I have to follow a gluten free, dairy free diet. Venison on the menu board wasn't available. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips but my meal of Roast Chicken was a disaster. I was presented with two dried-up chicken breasts with roast... More

Really shocked to see some of the negative reviews! The drink prices may be a little over priced but what do you honestly expect with such little competition in the local area. The food was fantasic! I'd happy say some of the best pub food I've enjoyed! Brilliant portions and the most delicious gravy. I would highly recommend one of... More

Went in this last weekend with daughters partner and surprised at cost of two pints, £8.40. Joined by my wife and daughter two minutes later and asked for two more drinks, again the drinks were of little cost to the establishment but came to £7.50. As the four drinks had come to more than anticipated my wifie asked to pay... More

Good walkers pub - very accommodating. Great beer, food, coffees etc. Friendly place, dogs and muddy boots allowed.

Had a meal in here and it was fine, atmosphere is a bit lacking but pie was tasty. Perhaps felt a little pricey for what we had. Nothing wrong with the place just a bit non-descript!

The staff behind the bar were friendly and I really wanted to stay and eat for that very reason but 2 things put me off: 1 - the atmosphere was cold and gloomy and I don't like have a massive tv in the bar area. 2 - £4 for a pint of beer, in Yorkshire, is crazy!!!

We only arrived here at the Buck Inn as The Lister Arms was so busy they had to close the kitchen for 2 hours. We had to go in the Hikers Bar after eventually reading all the do's and don'ts on the door, (dogs on leads, no dogs on the furniture etc etc) It was a red hot bank holiday... More
