The River Spice Indian Restaurant

A great curry house out the back of a fairly nondescript pub. The owner is very friendly and the varied and interesting menu made a nice change. Some of our friends tried the prawns in yorkshire pudding and said they were great. Really worth a visit, but be warned its difficult/impossible to... read more

We stumbled across River Spice within The Forge Hammer when staying at a B&B in Lydbrook. It is within the pub and at first we were confused as the pub doesn't look like much from the outside. The meal was lovely and the owner was very friendly. Bar staff in the pub very friendly also. We would definitely go back... More

We Have recently visited the Forge hammer which has the River Spice Indian restaurant as part of the pub, this no ordinary Indian restaurant as the menu is different to what you would expect with an extensive choice of dishes. the staff where very helpful in helping us decide our choice of food to order and even change any of... We decided to visit this Indian restaurant whilst visiting the Forest of Dean and funding the details in a brochure. When we found it, we were extremely surprised to find it was stuck on the back of a local pub. To be honest the entrance was very off putting. Some locals had crowded outside and were quite loud, sitting on... More

This review is of the Indian restaurant and NOT the pub. Ever been to an Indian in Birmingham, Leicester or Bradford, then you'll know the big flavour of a Balti or Tandoori; you won't get that here. Ive been 3 times and every time it disappoints. The owner should know better - he has another restaurant in cheltenham, and mates... More

Don't expect the usual Indian restaurant menu here. Most of the menu you may never have heard of, but don't let that stop you. You will find such gems as you didn't know existed and plenty of it too. Yes, there's Biriani and Tandoori if that's all you want, but there a're also pages of other dishes you may wish... More

In the last few years, I have been hugely disappointed when it comes to Indian Food. It was with trepidation, I entered this restaurant walking through the pub at the front. I have come to expect bland, samey tastes from chefs that quite frankly, couldn't care less what is served or lack the skills to spice the food put in... More

We found this unexpected gem whilst on a canoe trip. Each one of our party of ten would have no hesitation in visiting this pub and dining there again. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful with better than the normal pub food.

Another lovely evening at The Forge Hammer and River Spice, excellent service from the bar and the restaurant. Again the food was fabulous, delicious and interesting flavours and presentation. We loved the whole evening and especially the personable service and chat from our waiter. We will be back soon.

Would not dream of going anywhere else for a curry.Ate here this week and enjoyed everything we ate.I am very fond of okra and they cook it very well.I do not like chilly and I enjoy the mild curries while my husband likes a hot curry and is delighted with the ones he has had here. The service is good and...
