This used to be a pukka Indian restaurant hidden away in the Forest of Dean, which my sister and I tried a few years ago on the recommendation of another restaurant which was fully booked. By "pukka Indian" I mean it was at that time authentic Indian food (as opposed to the usual Bangladeshi fare). However, it must have changed... More

There has been no change of ownership at this back water pub in ten years, the only thing that has changed is the cuisine. The pizzas were amazing. Yes the Indian was fantastic and the Chinese was British Chinese. But now there is no dingy back bar restaurant at The Forge Hammer. I find it quite offending that you use... More

Went here after recommendation on website. Looked a bit dodgy from outside and when we walked in. It was a saturday and was really empty so we we were a bit dubious. They haven't really bothered trying to make it look like a chinese restaurant at all (basically looks like a back room of a pub) but the main reason... More

Brilliant what a little hidden gem. Don't be put off by the exterior. If we hadn't been told about it you wouldn't even know it was there. Friendly helpful staff, service excellent, excellent value .

rather than visiting the pub on the main road we followed the sign 100m to The Forge Hammer. Very pretty hanging baskets were outside with two table/bench seats. We were surprised to find Fri-Sun they serve a two course Chinese lunch for £8.50 which was prepared by a Chinese chef which two of us really enjoyed. The remaining two diners... More

This place is a real find. A totally unassuming little country pub with an amazing Chinese restaurant tucked away in a lovely room at the back. There was 14 of us. Lovely prawn crackers with tasty warm sauce was waiting on our table. Some of us had the set meal, which wasn't actually set as you could swap out any... More

We were staying for a couple of nights in Upper Lydbrook and whilst out walking found the pub and restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, the service was fantastic and the chef even came down to entertain our 9 month old! Would definitely recommend! Best Chinese I've had in a long time!

We were staying in the area on a stop over from Cornwall to home and looked on TA to find a good restaurant near our B&B. From the reviews we chose here. We had trouble in our journey up and had to change our time for reservation which was no problem and done without question. We arrived to be sat... More
